Los Angeles Lakers’ center Christian Wood underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Tuesday, marking another injury setback for the team’s depth players.

The Lakers did not specify a timeline for Wood’s recovery from the procedure, which took place at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. However, it appears probable that Wood, sidelined since February 14, will miss the remainder of the regular season.

In addition to Wood, the Lakers are currently without veterans Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, and Cam Reddish, further depleting the depth of the team’s supporting cast around stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Vanderbilt has been sidelined with a sprained right foot since February 1, while Vincent sustained a knee injury in October after appearing in just five games in his debut season with the Lakers. The team has not provided a timetable for their return, suggesting uncertain prospects.

Although Reddish has been out since March 8 due to an ankle injury, the Lakers anticipate his return shortly.

Wood has averaged 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds in 50 games this season, his first with the Lakers. Jaxson Hayes has admirably filled in as Los Angeles’ backup center during Wood’s absence. Despite the injury challenges, the Lakers have managed to win 13 of their last 20 games, retaining the ninth spot in the Western Conference playoff race after a decisive victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.

LeBron James continues to excel, averaging 25.4 points, 8.1 assists, and 7.2 rebounds in his remarkable 21st NBA season, while D’Angelo Russell maintains his impressive shooting streak since the midpoint of the season.
