Jaylen Brown celebrates after the game

Bronny James being drafted would have definitely grabbed attention, especially since LeBron James’ eldest son didn’t perform well in college basketball. The fact that he was picked by the Lakers, LeBron’s team, raised questions about whether LeBron influenced the decision.

After a tough Summer League showing, many, including Jaylen Brown, are questioning whether Bronny can make it in the NBA.

Brown, who won NBA Finals MVP and a championship with the Celtics, was seen courtside with WNBA players Kysre Gondrezick and Angel Reese during a Celtics vs. Lakers Summer League game. Coincidentally, a camera caught Brown apparently discussing Bronny during the game.

Though there’s no audio, lip readers said Brown expressed doubt about Bronny’s NBA potential in a conversation like this:

Brown: “I don’t think Bronny is a pro.” Gondrezick: “I think he’ll end up on the G-League team.” Brown: “I don’t think so. I think because of his name, he’ll be on the Lakers.”

Today, after NBA Twitter discussed Brown’s comments, the NBA Finals MVP responded and seemed to confirm that the lip-reading was accurate.

“It’s a flex to have your son alongside you in the NBA,” Brown tweeted. “It reflects greatness and longevity! Bronny has all the tools to succeed around him. I look forward to watching his growth.”
