Kawhi Leonard And his Knee Injury Shadows His Playoff Performance

In Dallas, Clippers star Kawhi Leonard expressed disappointment as his surgically repaired right knee failed to respond as hoped after Game 2, casting doubt on his availability for Game 4 on Sunday.

Despite gutting out 25 minutes in Friday’s 101-90 loss to the Mavericks, Leonard’s limited performance left the Clippers struggling, now trailing 2-1 in the series.

Leonard, who missed 23 days with knee inflammation, returned for Game 2, logging 35 minutes. However, he admitted his knee didn’t respond as expected after the game.

Coach Ty Lue previously mentioned Leonard felt good after Game 2, but the player himself acknowledged the setback after Game 3. Lawrence Frank, Clippers’ president of basketball operations, described Leonard’s knee inflammation as “unpredictable” and “stubborn,” complicating his recovery.

Leonard, who tore his ACL in 2021 and suffered a meniscus tear last postseason, has faced ongoing challenges with his knee despite sound structural repairs.

Despite visible limitations in Game 3, Leonard made efforts to contribute, showcasing determination amidst frustrating setbacks.

Teammate Paul George acknowledged Leonard’s resilience, emphasizing the team’s need to support him while he battles through his injury.
