Former NFL luminary Richard Sherman found himself in police custody early Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence, as reported by the Washington State Patrol.

According to Trooper Jordan Hazzard-Thomas, who was involved in the traffic stop, Sherman was observed exhibiting signs of intoxication, including the presence of the smell of alcohol and bloodshot, watery eyes.

Attempts to reach out for comments regarding Sherman’s arrest were made on Saturday to a representative listed on his social media profiles, as well as to a legal representative who has previously represented him.

The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued a statement confirming Sherman’s anticipation of a court hearing scheduled for Monday.

Sherman, acclaimed as a three-time All-Pro cornerback, boasted an illustrious 11-year tenure in the NFL, notably contributing to the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl triumph during the 2013 season.

Recognized as one of the premier defensive talents of his era, Sherman’s prowess was further underscored when he was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s.

Having spent seven seasons with the Seahawks before transitioning to the San Francisco 49ers for three, Sherman also donned the colors of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, showcasing his skills during his collegiate years at Stanford University.

More recently, Sherman had ventured into football analysis following his retirement from professional play.

In 2022, Sherman found himself entangled in legal issues, pleading guilty in Seattle to two misdemeanor charges stemming from an incident involving drunk driving and domestic disturbance the previous year. Additionally, he acknowledged a criminal infraction related to speeding in a roadway construction zone.
