Pete DeBoer knows the Vegas Golden Knights and their playoff history very well. He’s been involved in all six of their postseason appearances, either coaching them or coaching against them.

This year, DeBoer and the Dallas Stars are facing off against Vegas in the playoffs for the second consecutive year. Last year, Vegas defeated Dallas in the Western Conference Final on their way to winning the Stanley Cup.

Before that, when Vegas made the playoffs in their first two seasons, DeBoer was coaching against them as the coach of the San Jose Sharks.

“It’s quite remarkable to think about with 32 teams in the league,” DeBoer said. “Each journey was different, with both good and not-so-good memories. But, yes, it’s an interesting coincidence. Hopefully, we can change that this year.”

DeBoer has been part of 58 out of Vegas’s 88 postseason games, including three round-robin games in 2020. He coached Vegas for 39 of those games, reaching the Western Conference Final in 2020 and the third round in 2021.
