After defenseman Brett Pesce left Monday’s playoff victory against the New York Islanders due to a lower-body injury, Carolina Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour expressed concern about Pesce’s condition.
Pesce seemed to get injured without any contact while moving on the ice. He couldn’t continue playing and was sidelined for the rest of the game.
Brind’Amour didn’t sound positive about Pesce’s injury, mentioning it as a significant setback for the team. Pesce’s condition will be assessed further on Tuesday.
Throughout his nine seasons in the NHL, Pesce has been a consistent presence on the Hurricanes’ blue line, often playing alongside Brady Skjei in the second pairing during playoff games.
Carolina has other defensemen like Tony DeAngelo, who didn’t play on Monday, and rookie Scott Morrow, drafted in the second round in 2021.
Despite the setback, the Hurricanes managed to come back from a 3-0 deficit to win 5-3 on Monday. They lead the series 2-0 going into Thursday’s Game 3.
