Alexander Ovechkin’s record-breaking 895th NHL goal is now commemorated at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. His jersey and socks from the April 6 game against the New York Islanders—where he surpassed Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goals record—are part of the Hall’s “NHL Today” exhibit. These items mark one of the most significant milestones in NHL history.

In addition to the game-worn gear from the record-setting goal, the exhibit also includes memorabilia from earlier in Ovechkin’s career. A set of gloves and a stick used during the 2018 Stanley Cup Final are also featured, offering fans a more complete look at his achievements over time, particularly his impact on the Washington Capitals’ historic championship win.

Authentic Gear From Ovechkin’s Record Goal Meticulously Verified And Preserved For History

The authentication of the gear was handled quickly and carefully. Right after Ovechkin broke the record, the Capitals partnered with sports memorabilia company MeiGray to verify the items. The socks now on display bear official labels, including a Fanatics game-used gear sticker and a custom “Ovie Goal 895 Equipment” label signed by Capitals equipment manager Brock Myles, certifying their historic importance.

Although he donated key pieces to the Hall of Fame, Ovechkin retained a few treasured items for himself. He took home both the stick and puck from the 895th goal to Russia, where he hopes to one day open a personal museum in Moscow. As an avid collector, Ovechkin plans to showcase his own game-used memorabilia along with sticks from teammates and opponents, preserving the legacy of his remarkable career.
