Penguins take 5-goal lead and cruise to victory over Flames

Pittsburgh Penguins and Calgary Flames

Michael Bunting and Kris Letang each scored a goal and had two assists to help the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Calgary Flames 6-2 on Saturday.

Blake Lizotte also had a goal and an assist, and Alex Nedeljkovic made 30 saves for the Penguins, who won their third straight game.

Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri each had a goal and an assist for the Flames, who have now lost four in a row (0-3-1) and seven straight on the road (0-4-3). Flames goalie Dan Vladar made 37 saves.

Anthony Beauvillier gave Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead at 17:14 in the first period, scoring on a backhand shot after receiving a pass from Lizotte.

Bunting scored just seven seconds into a power play to make it 2-0 at 2:40 of the second period. Vladar stopped a shot from Matt Grzelcyk, but the rebound came to Bunting, who put it in the net.

The Penguins extended their lead to 3-0 at 9:02 when Letang passed to Philip Tomasino, who scored on a wrist shot into the open net.

Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL)

Rickard Rakell made it 4-0 at 5:25 of the third period. Crosby carried the puck into the offensive zone and passed it to Rakell, who scored in front of the net.

Letang added another goal at 7:59 with a one-timer on the power play, beating Vladar high to the far corner to make it 5-0.

Huberdeau scored for the Flames at 14:27, putting a pass from Kadri inside the left post to make it 5-1. Kadri then made it 5-2 at 15:05, lifting a loose puck over Nedeljkovic’s right shoulder.

Lizotte capped off the game with a top-corner shot from above the left circle for the 6-2 final score.
