Roberto Carballes Baena expressed his frustration after an early exit from the 2024 Chile Open, citing dissatisfaction with the tournament’s conditions.

Despite being the seventh seed, Baena suffered a 3-6, 7-5, 2-6 defeat to French qualifier Corentin Moutet in the opening round, held at Club Universidad Catolica de San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago de Chile on Tuesday, February 27.

Following the match, he criticized the late timing, poor court conditions, disputes with the referee, and even received a point penalty in the final game.

Baena didn’t mince words, calling the tournament “sh*t” and advocated for its removal from the ATP tour due to unsafe playing conditions.

He lamented the court’s state, describing it as unfit for professional tennis, expressing concern over potential player injuries. Baena highlighted the fear of sustaining injuries due to the court’s condition, noting discomfort in his back as a consequence.
