Iga Swiatek stayed on course for her first Madrid Open title by easily defeating Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-1, 6-0 on Monday.

The top-ranked Swiatek dominated the match, winning the final 12 games and only conceding five points in the second set. This victory takes her to the quarterfinals of the prestigious European clay tournament, the only major clay event she hasn’t won yet.

Sorribes Tormo, ranked 27th, was the last Spaniard left in the tournament.

Swiatek, who was the runner-up in last year’s Madrid final, will now face 11th-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia, who defeated fifth-seeded Maria Sakkari 6-4, 6-4.

In another match, eighth-seeded Ons Jabeur cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Jelena Ostapenko.
