The Houston Texans have reached an agreement with edge rusher Danielle Hunter, a four-time Pro Bowler, on a lucrative two-year contract worth $49 million, as confirmed by a source familiar with the negotiations.

The deal, which includes a remarkable $48 million guaranteed, is pending until the official start of the new league year on Wednesday.

Hunter’s standout performance last season with the Minnesota Vikings, where he achieved a career-high 16 1/2 sacks, solidified his reputation as one of the league’s premier pass rushers. Throughout his eight-year career, he has consistently reached double-digit sack totals, accomplishing this feat five times.

In Houston, Hunter will be a crucial addition to the Texans’ defensive lineup, particularly as a replacement for Jonathan Greenard, who is set to join the Vikings. Hunter will team up with AP Defensive Rookie of the Year Will Anderson to form a formidable duo on the Texans’ defensive front.

Under the leadership of first-year head coach DeMeco Ryans and rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, the Texans clinched the AFC South title last season and made it to the divisional round of the playoffs, marking significant progress for the franchise.
