In 2018, LeBron urged Doncic to “strive for greatness,” and now as teammates in Los Angeles, that message remains the same

Luka Doncic entered the NBA in 2018, calling LeBron James his idol. During their first game against each other, Doncic asked James for his jersey. After the game, he went to the Lakers’ locker room to get it, and James wrote a message on the purple jersey: “Strive for greatness.”

Now, nearly seven years later, both players are ready to strive for greatness together. A recent trade sent Doncic to the Lakers and Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks, creating a new superstar duo. James has teamed up with other big stars like Kyrie Irving, Dwyane Wade, and Davis, and now he gets to play with Doncic.

The question is: will it work? The answer will come in time, but James has already won titles with Irving in Cleveland, Wade in Miami, and Davis with the Lakers in 2020.

For Doncic, the moment he played against James for the first time is still memorable. “It was amazing,” he said. “It was something special for me, for sure. I looked up to him as my idol. It was just great for me. Like I said, it was special, and it will be a day that I remember.”

The Lakers hope this new partnership will create many more memorable days. The trade was finalized after James, at 40 years old, had an outstanding performance against the New York Knicks, scoring 33 points, recording 12 assists, and grabbing 11 rebounds. It was one of his many incredible performances at his age, continuing to show he’s still one of the best in the game.

James, even at 40, is unstoppable when playing at his best. He’s had four games with over 30 points since turning 40, tying Michael Jordan’s record. He averages 25 points per game at 40 and has more triple-doubles at that age than any other player in NBA history.

Luka Doncic looks over notes in the timeout

Now, James gets to play alongside Doncic, who brings a lot of similarities to his game. “I love everything about his game,” James said in 2022. “The way he plays the game reminds me of the way I play the game. We’re just triple threats.

We rebound. We pass, which is the No. 1 thing on our mind, trying to keep our teammates engaged and keeping our teammates feeling good on the floor, keeping our teammates in rhythm. And we will put 40 on you, too, if you disrespect us.”

Doncic, like James, has accomplished things few others have. He recorded one of only two 60-point triple-doubles in NBA history, alongside James Harden. He’s also one of only four players to score 73 points in a game. His scoring average ranks third in history behind Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain.

Now, they’re teammates, ready to chase big wins. James has lasted 22 years in the league because of his commitment to fitness, and the Lakers are hoping some of that discipline will rub off on Doncic. Doncic, despite not always being in peak shape, still delivers impressive performances.

It seems like James was almost predicting this pairing when the All-Star Game had captains choosing teams. James often picked Doncic for his team, calling him “Luka Magic,” and they spent time together on the bench and during warm-ups. Doncic never stopped looking up to James.

“He’s the best,” Doncic said.

On the night Doncic went to get that signed jersey, he never made it inside the Lakers’ locker room. Now, he’s not just outside the door—he’s inside. And there’s a new jersey waiting for him. It has a different name and number on the back, but the message will stay the same. The Lakers brought Doncic in to strive for greatness.

LeBron James hits his 2,500th 3-pointer, records a triple-double, and watches Bronny score in another unforgettable game

LeBron James reached a major milestone on his 31st trip to Madison Square Garden, hitting his 2,500th career 3-pointer and recording his 10th triple-double of the season. He finished with 33 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 128-112 win over the New York Knicks.

This victory improved his record at MSG to 23-8, and it was a special game for his son, Bronny, who was playing at the arena for the first time.

LeBron has played in some amazing games at MSG, from 50-point performances to triple-doubles, but this one felt different, as it marked Bronny’s debut in the building. “I understand the history of this building,” LeBron said.

“So many people that’s come through this building, so many athletes, so many musicians, so many artists, whatever the case may be. And I’ve been part of Madison Square Garden for my 20-plus years, so just try to give back to it.”

In the final minutes, the crowd switched from cheering for LeBron to chanting “We want Bronny! We want Bronny!” Bronny finally got his chance to play, entering with 1:50 left in the game. He made a left layup on his only shot attempt.

Before the game, Bronny had heard his father talk about his love for MSG, but as a rookie, he didn’t feel anything special when he first walked into the arena. It wasn’t until the place was filled with celebrities and fans cheering for him that he understood its significance. “Getting a bucket in here … it’s insane,” Bronny said.

LeBron James in the 1st half

LeBron’s first 3-pointer of the night made him the seventh player in NBA history to reach 2,500 career 3-pointers. He had already passed Kyle Korver to take the seventh spot after making his 2,450th on Dec. 4. Next in line is Reggie Miller, who has 2,560 career 3-pointers. LeBron expressed pride in how much he’s improved over his 22 seasons, becoming just as tough to guard beyond the arc as he is in the paint.

But for LeBron, the most meaningful part of the night was being able to play with his son. “It’s probably the greatest thing I’ve ever been a part of,” he said. The two spent time together in New York on Friday with family and friends before sharing the court on Saturday.

LeBron reflected on how much he missed during Bronny’s childhood, including watching his games in AAU and high school. “For me to be able to see all the buckets he’s had as an NBA player with us, to be here with him is just special,” he said.

Knicks prepare to face Lakers and rival LeBron James in New York

One game before LeBron James’ annual visit to Madison Square Garden, the New York Knicks were reminded once again that Jalen Brunson is the superstar they’ve been looking for since James entered the NBA.

Brunson will aim to help the Knicks stay perfect on their five-game homestand when New York faces the Los Angeles Lakers Saturday night in the first meeting between the two teams this season.

The Knicks have been off since Wednesday, when Brunson joined an elite group of franchise legends by scoring 30 points and adding 15 assists in a 122-112 win over the Denver Nuggets. The Lakers continued their six-game road trip Thursday, defeating the Washington Wizards 134-96.

Brunson’s historic performance added to his standout season as the Knicks’ captain in his third year with the team. Named an All-Star starter for the first time on Jan. 23, Brunson is averaging 25.9 points and a career-high 7.5 assists per game. The Knicks are on track to make the playoffs for the third consecutive season after only reaching it once in the nine seasons before Brunson’s arrival.

Brunson was particularly impressive on Wednesday, scoring 18 points in the third quarter as the Knicks took control, and adding seven assists in the fourth quarter as they pulled away. He became the fourth player in franchise history to record at least 30 points and 15 assists in a game, the first since Nate Robinson in 2009.

“He was just special,” said Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns. “‘Cap’ is special. Everyone knows. We needed him to score tonight, we needed him to do what he does best. And he did that. That’s why he’s special. Whenever his name is called in the biggest moment, he’s ready.”

No one has been as consistently ready as LeBron James, who turned 40 in December. Despite his age, he is averaging 23.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 9.0 assists in his 22nd NBA season, with nine triple-doubles. On Thursday, James played just over 26 minutes in the Lakers’ win over the Wizards, finishing with 24 points and 11 assists.

The Lakers led by 33 points at halftime and won by 38. This was their seventh win in the last nine games, and they were in fifth place in the Western Conference as of Friday.

“Don’t overlook the fact that, by the way, he’s 40 years old in Year 22 with every accolade under the sun and he comes out on a Thursday night in a non-nationally televised game against a team that’s really struggling and he’s the tone-setter,” said Lakers coach JJ Redick.

James has averaged 26.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 7.3 assists in 59 games against the Knicks.

LeBron and Davis Face Crucial Trade Deadline to Secure Lakers’ Championship Window

As the trade deadline approaches, LeBron James stands at a critical point in his illustrious career. At 40 years old, his time in the NBA is more limited, and his window to chase another championship is narrowing. LeBron has spent over two decades ensuring his teams are competitive, pushing organizations to build championship-caliber rosters. However, this season, his timeline has become more focused on the present, as next year is uncertain. His ability to fend off Father Time may not last forever, and the idea of a future title chase is no longer a guarantee.

LeBron has jokingly stated that he could play for five more seasons, but the reality is his career is now very much focused on each season as it comes. For the first time, looking too far ahead could be irresponsible. This shift in perspective has highlighted the importance of the Lakers’ moves this season. With LeBron’s age, the urgency to improve the team for a potential title run is undeniable, but the question is how the Lakers will act to strengthen the roster in his favor.

Anthony Davis and Lebron James
Anthony Davis and Lebron James (NBA)

The Role of Anthony Davis in the Lakers’ Future

While LeBron’s age makes him the focal point of the Lakers’ pursuit of a championship, Anthony Davis’ role in team building is equally critical. Davis is aware of what it takes to win a championship and understands the difference between good and great teammates. His partnership with LeBron, which led to an NBA title, showcases their synergy. Furthermore, their bond was reinforced with a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics, where LeBron earned MVP honors, proving his continued excellence.

From Davis’ perspective, the current Lakers roster falls short of the level necessary for a championship contender. Despite good players surrounding them, the team lacks the star power and depth to compete with the league’s top teams. Davis knows that elite duos like those in Boston (Tatum and Brown), Dallas (Luka and Kyrie), and Phoenix (Durant and Booker) have built strong foundations. However, the Lakers’ duo of LeBron and Davis stands among the best in the league and may be the best chance for a title right now.

Looking at the broader league, Davis recognizes that pairing with LeBron gives him a unique opportunity. While other teams have star duos, few can match the level of both LeBron and Davis. Davis’ trust in LeBron, developed over their championship run, plays a significant role in the Lakers’ success. Given the parity in the NBA and the difficulty of forming such high-caliber duos, Davis must understand that this partnership may be the most promising avenue for a title in the immediate future.

Assessing the Lakers’ Window of Opportunity

For Davis, the question becomes whether this current moment represents his best chance to win. Even if a new superstar could join the Lakers in the future, the time required to develop chemistry and build a strong roster may make that a long-term process. The Lakers’ current window with LeBron, despite his age, remains wide open due to the trust, experience, and history between the two superstars. Team-building efforts will not be more favorable than they are now.

With both LeBron and Davis at crucial stages of their careers, the Lakers cannot afford to waste this opportunity. The trade deadline presents a chance to bolster the roster and ensure that both stars have the supporting cast necessary to make a legitimate title run. While LeBron’s age is a factor, it is also Davis’ timeline that should guide the Lakers’ decision-making. This could be one of the last chances for the Lakers to build a championship team around both of them.

Ultimately, the decision-makers for the Lakers, including Rob Pelinka, must recognize that the window is open now. This is not just for LeBron’s sake but also for Anthony Davis, who is approaching his 32nd birthday. Davis, despite being in his prime, may not find a better opportunity to win a title with the current roster and his current teammate. This trade deadline represents a crucial moment to go all in, ensuring that both LeBron and Davis have the support they need to chase one more championship together.

LeBron James Leads Lakers to 111-88 Win Over Wizards, Achieving 121st Career Triple-Double

LeBron James was the driving force behind the Los Angeles Lakers’ 111-88 victory over the Washington Wizards. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer recorded 21 points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds, achieving his 121st career triple-double. Despite a long trip to Atlanta the day before to watch his Ohio State Buckeyes win the College Football Playoff, James showed no signs of fatigue, leading his team with ease.

Davis and Role Players Shine in Lakers’ Victory

Anthony Davis was also pivotal in the Lakers’ win, scoring 29 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. Role players Dorian Finney-Smith and Austin Reaves provided valuable support, each contributing 16 points. Finney-Smith also hit four 3-pointers, adding extra firepower to the Lakers’ offense. Together, they ensured the Lakers easily overcame the Wizards, extending their dominance.

Wizards Extend Losing Streak to 11 Games

The Wizards have now lost 11 straight games, falling further behind in the standings. Bilal Coulibaly led Washington with 17 points, while Jordan Poole and Corey Kispert each scored 15. However, the Wizards’ struggles continued on the road, where they are now 1-18. They remain winless since January 1, further adding to their woes.

LeBron James took charge in the second quarter, scoring 10 points to help the Lakers pull away. He completed his triple-double with 3:19 left in the game, moving past Scottie Pippen for 7th place in NBA history for career steals.

The Lakers will host the Boston Celtics on Thursday, while the Wizards face the Clippers in their next matchup.

In Los Angeles, LeBron James recorded a triple-double just one night after attending his Buckeyes’ CFP title win, calling the experience “super-cool”

LeBron James’ first triple-double after turning 40 was impressive on its own. What made it even more remarkable was that he achieved it just one day after flying from Los Angeles to Atlanta and back to support his Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff championship game.

James showed no signs of fatigue or jet lag while recording 21 points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 111-88 win over the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night. On Monday, he was 2,200 miles away in a luxury box at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, celebrating with friends and family as the Buckeyes secured their title with a victory over Notre Dame.

“It was great to be there,” James said. “I was also there 10 years ago, I believe, when they won it. I was there in Dallas when they won it. To be there yesterday with a lot of my family and friends, it was super cool to be able to have that moment. We’re all diehard Ohio State fans back home.”

James, who grew up in Akron, has been a passionate Ohio State football fan since childhood. He watches their games on TV and attends in person whenever he can, including in January 2015 when Ohio State, led by Urban Meyer, defeated Oregon to win the first-ever College Football Playoff.

James, while a four-time NBA champion, is also a genuine sports fan who still finds excitement in witnessing historic moments. “Anytime you see championship-caliber teams go out and play to a level of excellence, it’s always inspiring,” James said. “No matter if it’s college or if it’s pros, whatever the case may be, it’s always inspiring. So I’m always inspired by greatness.”

LeBron James laughs on the court in the 2nd half

The trip would be challenging for most people, but James had the luxury of private jet travel. He had scored 25 points for the Lakers against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night before his long day of travel on Monday. He returned on Tuesday night to record his 121st career triple-double, the fifth-most in NBA history.

James’ trip to Dallas 10 years ago was similarly impressive. At that time, he was with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and he had games in Sacramento and Phoenix on the days before and after the Buckeyes’ title game against Oregon. James flew to Dallas, got back to Arizona around 12:30 a.m., and scored 33 points against the Suns the next evening.

This was James’ ninth triple-double of the season and his first since his 40th birthday on December 30. Halfway through his 22nd NBA season, he has shown almost no signs of slowing down, averaging 23.8 points, 8.9 assists, and 7.4 rebounds.

Karl Malone is the only other player in NBA history to record a triple-double in his 40s. The Mailman did it for the Lakers on November 28, 2003, when he was 105 days older than LeBron was on Tuesday night.

Over the past two seasons, James has recorded 14 triple-doubles, extending his own record as the second-oldest player in NBA history to achieve the feat each time.

LeBron James supports Ohio State at the College Football Playoff Championship in Houston

LeBron James attended the College Football Playoff championship game on Monday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium to support his favorite team, the Ohio State Buckeyes, as they played against Notre Dame.

ESPN cameras spotted James in a suite about 45 minutes before the game started. He had come to town the day before the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against the Washington Wizards, which he was scheduled to play the next day.

Late in the first half, James appeared on the stadium’s video board. He removed his red Ohio State hat, showed it to the crowd, and raised his right fist in excitement as the fans cheered.

LeBron James has always kept close ties to his home state of Ohio. He is originally from Akron and began his NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Bryce Harper, a star for the Philadelphia Phillies, was also present to support Ohio State. Harper’s wife, Kayla, attended Ohio State, and she was part of the Buckeyes’ cheering section.

On the Notre Dame side, there were several notable figures in the crowd. Former coach Lou Holtz, who is 88 years old, was in attendance, as was singer Jon Bon Jovi, both of whom watched the game from suites.

Before the game, two legendary running backs were introduced on the field. Archie Griffin, who won the Heisman Trophy for Ohio State in 1974 and 1975, appeared alongside Jerome Bettis, a former Notre Dame star and Pro Football Hall of Fame member.

Also at the game was Rev. Bernice King, the youngest daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who is the CEO of The Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change. This was the first time the College Football Playoff National Championship was held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as well as the first time the game was played on the day of a presidential inauguration.

Bernice King had delivered a speech earlier in the day, warning against anti-woke rhetoric at a service held before her father’s former congregation in Atlanta. Later, she participated in the pregame coin toss at the championship game.

After the Los Angeles Lakers’ Christmas Day win over the Warriors, LeBron James delivered a direct message to the NFL

After the Los Angeles Lakers’ thrilling 115-113 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day, LeBron James had a message for the NFL.

While Netflix aired two major NFL games – with the Kansas City Chiefs crushing the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens dominating the Houston Texans – James made it clear that Christmas belongs to the NBA. Historically, Christmas Day has been the NBA’s domain, but the NFL is trying to make its mark.

During a post-game interview in Los Angeles, James told ESPN’s Lisa Salters, “I love the NFL, but Christmas is our day.”

The NBA showcased five key games, with James leading the Lakers to victory with 31 points, 10 assists, and a close battle against Stephen Curry’s 38 points. This thrilling finish outshined both NFL games, which lacked a comparable climax.

LeBron James Talks About Viral Post and Son Bronny on Kelce Brothers’ Podcast

LeBron James is incredibly proud of his son Bronny James!

On January 15, 2025, LeBron, the Los Angeles Lakers star, appeared on the New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce podcast and shared that playing in the NBA with his 20-year-old son, Bronny, has been his greatest achievement.

LeBron, who is 40 years old, and Bronny made history in October 2024 by becoming the first father-son duo to play together in the NBA.

LeBron said, “When it comes to the titles, that’s one separate thing. But to be able to play in this league and also being able to do it alongside Bronny right now, that’s one of the biggest accomplishments and probably the No. 1 accomplishment I’ve ever been able to do.”

He added, “To work with your son — I’ve heard it from a lot of people and, not only [in] sports, but I’ve heard it in business and [other] walks of life, and they say it’s the greatest thing you could ever have.”

In addition to Bronny, LeBron also has two other children: Bryce, 17, and Zhuri, 10, with his wife Savannah. He explained how the time spent with Bronny now is helping him make up for the years he missed while playing basketball and being on the road.

LeBron explained, “To see him every day, grinding and going through the process of trying to become who he wants to become while I’m sitting there and just watching him, and doing the things that he wants to do and being able to just take it all in … it helps me get some of the minutes and hours and years back that I did not have with him because I was playing so much and on the road and doing my own thing, and traveling.”

LeBron James reacts after missing in the 1st half

He continued, “So to be able to get some of his time back now, man, it’s pretty special.”

LeBron also talked about how Bronny has to deal with the pressures of social media, which was something LeBron didn’t have to experience when he was younger.

LeBron said, “I didn’t have to deal with the social-media trolls either, growing up. And I didn’t have to deal with my father being this f—ing guy that’s on a pedestal.”

He went on to say that if critics met Bronny, they would feel foolish, as Bronny is “the most chill, easy, fun kid in the world.”

LeBron believes that the challenges Bronny faces now will help him grow even stronger. He said, “I think it’s gonna make him to be even greater, because having to deal with all of the things that he’s dealing with and still being able to come back from a life-threatening situation and still have the motivation,” referring to Bronny’s recovery after suffering a cardiac arrest during a basketball workout at the University of Southern California in July 2023.

LeBron said, “Bronny doesn’t have to play basketball at all. But he’s like, ‘This is my career. This is my goals and this is my aspirations, and I wanna play ball. This is something that I love.'”

He ended by saying, “I love that kid. He’s awesome.”

Maverick Carter Advises $5B Plan for New Basketball League in Los Angeles

Maverick Carter, LeBron James’ business manager, has been brought in as an adviser by a group of investors who are working to raise $5 billion to create an international basketball league that aims to compete with the NBA, sources told ESPN. This story was first reported by Bloomberg on Thursday.

The group, which includes several private equity funds, plans to form a league with six men’s teams and six women’s teams. The games will be played around the world, according to sources.

Although Carter is closely connected to LeBron James, who is a prominent figure in the sports world, sources confirmed that James is not involved in the creation of this new league. While James has not taken part in this project, he has previously shown interest in becoming an NBA team owner after he finishes his playing career. His current Lakers contract includes a player option for the 2025-26 season.

Carter, who has also worked as a producer on several of James’ TV and film projects, is said to be advising the investment group as they attempt to raise the $5 billion needed.

LeBron James reacts after missing in the 1st half

The group is reportedly planning to approach private equity funds and sovereign wealth funds for the money. Currently, private equity funds are limited to holding no more than 20% of an NBA team and cannot have governing roles.

The NBA has not faced a major rival in the 5-on-5 basketball league format since the 1970s. Back then, it merged with the American Basketball Association, which had a short life but included teams such as the Pacers, Nets, Nuggets, and Spurs. In the 1990s, the WNBA faced competition from the American Basketball League, though that league only lasted two and a half seasons before folding.

This season, a new 3-on-3 women’s basketball league called Unrivaled has started, attracting many big WNBA stars. However, rookie sensation Caitlin Clark chose not to participate in the league.

LeBron James opens up about the mental impact of the fires, enjoys special fan interaction in Los Angeles

Speaking for the first time since the Southern California wildfires forced him and his family to evacuate their home last week, LeBron James shared that the fires, which have burned through 60 square miles and killed at least 25 people, have affected him mentally.

“I have a couple of dear friends that have lost their homes in the Palisades,” James said after the Los Angeles Lakers’ 117-108 win over the Miami Heat. “Obviously, my heart goes out to all of the families, all across not only the Palisades, but all across L.A. County and all the surrounding areas because of the fire. … It’s been a lot of emotions. Kind of been off. Personally, I’ve been off.”

“I’ve just been completely off for obvious reasons, but hopefully things are contained or continue to be contained. And hopefully, at some point, we can start to push forward and move forward and put it behind us and rebuild our city, rebuild this beautiful city.”

His team has also struggled to maintain the momentum they had just a couple of weeks ago, when they won 8 out of 11 games and strengthened their roster by trading for Dorian Finney-Smith, a sought-after 3-and-D wing.

The Lakers had lost three straight games and were down by 12 at halftime against the Heat when James checked his phone in the locker room. A family friend had sent him a video of a young girl sitting courtside in a replica James No. 23 jersey. She was moved to tears when James waved at her during the first quarter.

“Thank goodness that I actually looked at my phone at halftime, or I wouldn’t have even seen the reaction when I waved to her in the first half,” James said after the game. “I waved to her, and then I got back to play. So, to have that type of connection with someone, where they can have that type of reaction, I think that’s what it’s all about.

And I’ve always tried to be a role model and someone that kids can look up to. … Try to make them proud and want to come see me play or if they’re not able to see me play, hopefully some of the things that I do off the floor continue to inspire them.”

LeBron James reacts in the 2nd half

That moment seemed to lift James’ spirits. He scored 15 of his 22 points after halftime, including seven straight in the fourth quarter, helping to extend the Lakers’ lead from two points with 3:51 left to nine points with 1:52 remaining. The Lakers held on to beat Miami.

“His comfort level closing the basketball game is obviously very high,” said Lakers coach JJ Redick, one of James’ friends who lost his home in the Pacific Palisades.

On Monday, the Lakers had lost 126-102 after a six-day break caused by the fires, with the team being outscored by 33 points in the second half against the San Antonio Spurs. At shootaround before the Heat game, Redick challenged the entire team to step up their leadership. The Lakers responded with a strong team effort, with James being one of six players to score 14 points or more in the win.

James said the Lakers’ performance against Miami, and future games like it, is something he hopes will help Los Angeles feel some positivity during tough times.

“I hope that by us going out on the floor and us playing the way we played tonight — not the way we played against San Antonio — but the way we played tonight and hopefully the next few months or whatever it is, years, until the city is back up, that we as a Lakers franchise and the players that are playing for the Lakers give a sense of hope and pride and excitement,” James said.

“Sports has always given people an opportunity to kind of just like temporarily forget about whatever they may have been going through. And us being such a big part of the L.A. community — along with a lot of other sports teams, but we know how important the Lakers is to the community — hopefully we can provide that to a lot of families.”

After the game, James went over to the girl sitting courtside before she and her family left the arena. He gave her one of his I Promise wristbands and knelt down beside her to take a photo.

“I think it will be something that hopefully she will never forget,” James said. “I’m happy to be a part of her life now and that small little moment, but such a bigger moment. And hopefully she brags about it in school.”

Warriors Trade Rumors Heat Up with LeBron James Potentially Joining Forces with Stephen Curry

The Golden State Warriors have been at the center of NBA trade rumors as the 2024-25 season progresses. This attention is unsurprising, given their offseason roster changes following the departure of Klay Thompson. Initially, the revamped roster showed promise, but as the season has unfolded, it’s become clear that the Warriors still need an extra push to solidify their status as championship contenders.

A longstanding idea to pair Stephen Curry with LeBron James has resurfaced, fueled further by their recent success in winning gold together at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The prospect of these two legendary players joining forces in Golden State has only added to the speculation surrounding the Warriors’ trade plans. However, while the notion is enticing, several logistical hurdles must be addressed before it becomes a reality.

Warriors Trade Rumors Heat Up with LeBron James Potentially Joining Forces with Stephen Curry
Warriors Trade Rumors Heat Up with LeBron James Potentially Joining Forces with Stephen Curry

One significant obstacle is LeBron James’ no-trade clause, which gives him full control over his future. Any move would require his explicit approval, a decision that might not come easily given his established ties to Los Angeles. Beyond his consent, determining James’ trade value is complex due to his age and iconic stature. As he approaches 40, his contributions on the court are balanced against the uncertainties of his remaining career.

A hypothetical trade involving LeBron and his son Bronny James could see the Warriors sending Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, Lindy Waters, De’Anthony Melton, and a protected 2027 first-round pick to the Lakers. Such a deal would address the Lakers’ potential interest in rebuilding while giving the Warriors a short-term boost. However, Kuminga’s inclusion would likely be essential, given his value as a young and promising player.

Timing also plays a role, as any trade would need to wait until mid-December due to contract restrictions. While the deal presents risks, particularly with LeBron’s age and limited remaining years, it could provide an all-in opportunity for the Warriors to contend for a championship immediately. For now, the NBA world continues to speculate on whether this blockbuster move might come to fruition.
