Namibian Captain Extends Apology Amid the Head Clash

Namibian Captain Johan Deysel has extended an apology to Antoine Dupont after a head-on-head collision that had injured the France star enough to drop him out of the match.

As the reports came later on, the collision caused Dupont a facial fracture, which has put his gameplay for this remaining session in doubt. The France star was seen on a toll of good action during the first half of the match against Namibia, till he faced the accident and could not continue to play in the later half.

Dupont had met with the injury during France’s lead of 54-0. Deysel was given a yellow card for the collision, which was later upgraded to red after a review by the television match official.

Deysel spoke up about the incident and extended an apology for Dupont. The player has claimed that he didn’t mean any harm as he extended his best wishes to Antoine Dupont.

Deysel’s say on the incident

According to the player, everything happened too quickly, and he couldn’t get his head out of the way quickly enough, resulting in a head clash. He realizes that he is the one at fault.

Deysel had spoken with the France head coach, Fabien Galthie, immediately after the match and had sent his best wishes and apologies to Antoine, both personally and through the France team doctor.

The French Rugby Federation has spoken up on Dupont’s injury, but it remains uncertain how much time it could take the player to recover from it.

The Deysel-Dupont head clash is the headline news in France at the moment, as the Les Bleus player may have to drop out for the rest of the tournament.

Wales head coach Warren Gatland and England scrum-half Danny Care have also sent their best wishes to Dupont. The fans and spectators are all stunned and wishing for a smooth and fast recovery of the France star.

Good News for the Wallabies as Fa’amausili Makes his Return

Wallabies’ Pone Fa’amausili is ready to make his comeback before the team’s clash with Wales. Fa’amausili is set to return from a calf injury just in time for the team’s awaited match on 25 September.

The player’s return is being seen as a good sign as the team is going to miss out on two players, Will Skelton and Taniela Tupou, due to an injury.

Fa’amausili will be playing as the team’s main weapon. The player holds great strength in his 130-kilogram and almost two-meter-tall body. The spectators believe his presence could make a whole lot of difference in the team’s gameplay as compared to their match against Fiji.

Fa’amausili has been described as “hippo on ice skates” by his Melbourne Rebels coach, Kevin Foote, and the title fits him as with his massive build, the player has also acquired a great level of balance.

Wallabies scrum coach speaks about the player.

The Wallabies scrum coach Neal Hatley believes that Fa’amausili is the biggest improver in the Australian squad. The player has shown his best performance during his first test start against the All Blacks in Dunedin. Though Australia had lost the match by three points, the player was appreciated for his performance in the gold Jersey.

Hatley had earlier spoken about the player, stating that Fa’amausili is their most improved player. Despite not having a regular start for the Rebels, he is doing a phenomenal job. The coach talked about how the player’s body, attitude, and mindset towards training all have changed with time.

The coach is pleased with where the player is going and what’s ahead of him, not just this weekend but also moving forward.

Fa’amausili was born and brought up in Melbourne. The player has spent his youth in rugby league teams at the Storm, Dragons, and Panthers. He was not mentally prepared to get into the National rugby league.

The player had tried out for Rebels’ under-20 side just to accompany his friend, but before long, he had earned himself a position in the Australian team.

The player had given the credit for his improvement to the Wallabies’ coach, Eddie Jones, and his teammate Tupou, who helped him find his potential as a test player.

In an interview, Fa’amausili talked about his journey from the nontechnical league to where he is now and how the journey was never easy. The player says he is still learning to grab onto the ropes of rugby.

With the good news for the Wallabies, the fans are awaiting the player’s legendary tricks on the field again.

France Sets a New Scoreline Record in the World Cup

This year’s Rugby World Cup host, France, has begun the championship with a boom. The team earned itself a 96-0 win against Namibia on 21 September at Stade de Marseille.

The team scored a total of 14 tries, which included a hat-trick for Damian Penaud. The player is now in third position in France’s all-time try scorers list, and this was said to be the player’s 33rd test touchdown. The player is behind Vincent Clerc (34) and Serge Blanco (38) on the list.

Thomas Ramos earned himself a tally of 24 points, while Jonathan Danty and Flanker Charles Ollivon scored two tries together. However, despite the grand win, the team was faced with some concern as scrum-half Antoine Dupont had to leave the field early on in the second half after a head clash with Namibia captain Johan Deysel, who got a red card for the action.

What more went down during the match

Dupont was in high spirits during the first half of the match, with one try for himself and three assists. The team lost a bit of its spirit after the player left the field, but the match was then held on by the left winger Louis Bielle-Biarrey. The player took full action on his own.

Damian Penaud scored a hat-trick with Jonathan Danty, Louis Bielle-Biarrey, and Charles Ollivon, who all scored twice.

The team tried to bring up the score to 100-0, but they were not able to execute the attack as planned. In the end, the hosts ended the match with a 96-0 win, setting a new record scoreline for this year’s Rugby World Cup.

France has proven itself a strong component in the championship, as any team that has to face off with the hosts now will be competing with a power force and record of close to 100 wins during the championship.

San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey Does Not Care About The Heavy Workload

Christian McCaffrey took every rep in Sunday’s win over the Los Angeles Rams, with Elijah Mitchell sitting on the bench. McCaffrey has taken 91.7% of the reps during the two weeks of training.

McCaffrey said, “I think it’s all dependent on how the game’s going. We had a lot of breaks last game. Sometimes, that’s just how it goes. There’s gonna be games, too, where Mitchell gets four or five carries in a row on multiple drives because he’s playing well, and he’s feeling it, and I’ll be out.

It’s really such a situational thing. You know, I don’t think it’s ever a plan for us to get all the carries or not. It’s just sometimes that’s just how the games go.”

The Niners had a short week coming up, but it was a surprise when Mitchell didn’t get any run at all. Kyle Shanahan, Head Coach of the Niners, admitted that earlier this week, it was an oversight on his part.

McCaffrey’s workload on a weekly basis

While playing every move is transparent, it wasn’t as if McCaffrey’s workload was insane. He took 20 carries Sunday after 22 in Week 1. He had a total of 48 touches in the two-week duration.

However, it is seen that McCaffrey just had one game last season with 20-plus carries after entering into the Niners. Given his injury, it is expected that Mitchell will get as many carries as possible as the season progresses, particularly on a short week against the New York Giants this Thursday.

McCaffrey played 100 percent of the offensive snaps for his team, with a total of 15 times throughout his career. Most of the running backs have only done about ten times in that same time span.

Sunday was marked as the first time McCaffrey played 100 percent of his snaps since Week 15 of 2019 with the Panthers.

McCaffrey leads the NFL with over 268 rush yards during the two-week duration. It’s the most rushing yards in his career and the first time to go over 200 yards, as per NFL Research.

His 304 scrimmage yards are the top compared to all the RBs and are also second-most overall.

McCaffrey is the first 49ers player with 100-plus rush yards and 1-plus rush TD to reach since Garrison Hearst in 1998. Christian McCaffrey could become the first player in the team’s history to achieve in the season’s first three games.

Ireland Planning an “Ugly Win” Over South Africa

Defence coach Simon Easterby advises Ireland to go for an “ugly” win against the leading team, South Africa.  Ireland’s men’s head, Andy Farrell, has traveled all the way to Paris seeking a spot for his team in the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals.

Ireland is doing well in the test matches, with 27 wins out of a total of 29 tests since the beginning of the tournament. The team has secured spectacular wins over Romania and Tonga.

The great Ireland will once again be in the limelight when they deliver their easy-on-the-eye style at Stade de France.

Easterby has spoken about the team’s gameplay, stating that they plan to play well in a certain way, which is difficult to play against and difficult to beat. The team will be looking to implement a lot of the stuff that they have seen over the last couple of years as they have also tried in the Tongo and Romania games, said the coach.

However, the defense coach claimed that they have not had to win ugly, maybe too many times. He thinks it would be great if the team could throw the ball around and score plenty of tries, but they are aware that they have to do things at the moment and make sure that they are adaptable and play certain ways in certain parts of the game.

Easterby on the team’s playing strategy

Easterby realizes that the team’s bold selection does not change Ireland’s game approach. He expressed his views on the playing strategy of other teams, as every team has a particular strategy, and it is up to them to believe that that strategy is the right thing for each game.

The coach has very confidently claimed that South Africa will need a particular strategy like that in order to beat Ireland this 24th September.

Ireland has trained all its 33 players at the base in Tours this week. The coach has said that everyone has trained really well. He has expressed his concern regarding Jack Conan, who seems to be lagging behind due to his foot injury.

But the coach has expressed his satisfaction with the player’s progress as he said Jack had done incredibly well along with the medics who got him up to speed. The player may be on track from where the team expected him to be, so he is doing really well, and the coach is happy with his progress.

The whole Ireland team, along with the coaches, players, and medics, have worked really hard preparing for the upcoming grand matches. The audience is ready to witness another epic victory for Ireland.

Kareem Hunt Returns to Cleveland Browns On A One-Year Deal

The Running Back is returning to the Cleveland Browns on a one-year deal worth over four million Dollars. The team has officially announced the signing.

Hunt’s return comes as an important replacement for Nick Chubb’s season-ending knee injury after the loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Chubb was officially placed on injured reserve on Wednesday.

Hunt spent his entire 2023 offseason waiting for a market opportunity to play a significant role in the NFL.

Although he made several visits to interested teams during his training camp, he never materialized such a role until Monday night.

Cleveland’s Realization

As the market value of running backs notably increased over the summer, Hunt was left without a future plan. Meanwhile, Cleveland seemingly carried on without Hunt and didn’t express any interest in him.

After Hunt requested a trade in 2022 from the Browns due to disagreements over his usage with head coach Kevin Stefanski, which led to damage their relationship permanently.

An unfortunate injury happened to  Hunt’s close friend, and his former teammate suddenly changed everything between Hunt and the Browns. Cleveland quickly realized just how much they were depending on Chubb.

On Monday night, the elite runner exited with a severe, gruesome knee injury. This led to asking the second-year back Jerome Ford to suddenly carry the Browns offense that hasn’t yet proven itself capable of being able to pass the bar limitation.

Knowing Hunt was still available and was living in the area, Cleveland made one of the most predictable phone calls in history, and in less than 24 hours, Hunt and his hometown team were reunited.

Hunt is more likely to carry a huge chunk of load than he ever did while sharing the field with Chubb. We will see if he’s up for the task and manages to do it.

The All Blacks Need to Play More Open and Exciting Rugby, Breaking from their Usual Style

In the first game of the World Cup, the All Blacks got in trouble because they kept losing the ball and giving away penalties when their player with the ball was all alone, and the other team took it away from them.

The French team showed a great defensive plan and won because their strong players knew how to take the ball away from the All Blacks by getting in the right positions.

The All Blacks Need to Play More Open and Exciting Rugby, Breaking from their Usual Style
Planet Rugby (Credits: Planet Rugby)

The All Blacks learned that they must be cautious when using the entire field during the tournament. Les Bleus made it seem easy at the end, like they had a smart plan to upset and beat the All Blacks. In the first half, France kicked the ball away a lot. They did not seem to want it, and Antoine Dupont kicked it far, letting the All Blacks decide what to do with it.

And what the All Blacks wanted to do was kick it back. And that’s what they did. Time and time again, the first 40 minutes were strangely subdued, with Beauden Barrett and Richie Mo’unga seemingly determined not to fight back under any circumstances.

In the second half, France successfully forced the All Blacks into several mistakes, putting pressure on the scoreboard and forcing New Zealand to play catch-up rugby.

When the New Zealanders go into this mode and try to play wider, they are an easy target for turnovers for the French, with All Blacks manager Ian Foster saying, “They’re isolated against the French…They don’t give the ball away.” He’s very good at attacking,” he lamented.

The solution for the All Blacks appears to be to abandon their preferred ball-in-hand game and, like the other major teams at this World Cup, be conservative and keep kicking the ball.

This clearly worked for France, Ireland, South Africa, and England, with stats from the first two rounds of the tournament showing they averaged 56 shots per game, the most since the 1996 World Cup.

England’s entire game plan was based on putting the ball away, and attacking coach Richard Wrigglesworth said after their 34–12 win over Japan that they were “not happy with our attacking position.”

It is Never in New Zealand’s DNA to Spend 80 Minutes Kicking The Ball Away

“But it has nothing to do with the kicking game, and it’s not separate from it. It’s all part of the same fabric. You want to shoot the ball brilliantly, so either you take it back brilliantly, or you take the shot and score.” Either you do it.

“It’s definitely better to fight for position than lose the ball. What we’ve seen so far in this World Cup is that the most successful teams have had very skilled and efficient kicking games. We are working to make sure we are in the best position possible. ”

It is Never in New Zealand’s DNA to Spend 80 Minutes Kicking the Ball Away
NZL 71-3 NAM (Credits: Rugby World Cup)

But spending 80 minutes kicking the ball is not in New Zealand’s DNA. They want effective kicking strategies and, despite appearances, have always been one of the most prolific kicking teams in world football.

But they will never play like England. There’s always a balance in their game because they have too many natural ball runners and talented athletes on their team and don’t want to put the ball in their hands and run it defensively.

Therefore, the key for New Zealand to be more effective at this World Cup is not to stick to the same kick-heavy strategy as other teams but rather to double down on their running game and become one of the few teams in this World Cup. Anyone who does this is happier playing with the ball than without it.

In practice, this means you have to develop a counter-attack strategy and be ready to give it back when the ball is handed to you.
