Sule was a giant.” the team said in a statement on Sunday. “Instead of leading us at the front of the pack, he will now lead us as our guiding pole star as we move forward in the realization of his dream.”
“It is with a shock that I have received the unhappy news that Sule Kangangi passed away after an unfortunate crash in the United States,”tweeted Rachel Ruto, wife of Kenya’s president-elect Williams Ruto.
Who is Suleiman Kangangi?
Suleiman Kangangi is a Kenyan cyclist who has broken numerous world endurance cycling records. He was born in 1988 and started racing when he was just 14 years old. In 2010, he became the first African ever to win a stage of the Tour de France, and in 2016, he became the first Kenyan ever to win a stage of the Giro d’Italia.

Career
Kangangi started by riding in local races, but he soon rose to prominence when he won the Tour of Kenya in 2016. Since then, he’s gone on to win several other races, including the 2017 Paris-Roubaix Cyclist Classic and the 2018 Giro d’Italia.
He has also been nominated for two prestigious awards – the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award and the prestigious Tour de France’s Most Popular Rider Award. Kangangi is a prime example of how hard work and dedication can lead to success. He’s always been determined to reach his goals, no matter how difficult they might seem at first.
Suleiman Kangangi is the latest victim of cycling accidents involving professional athletes. In 2017, Belgian cyclist Tom Boonen was killed after being involved in a high-speed crash during the Liège-Bastogne-Liège race. The following year, Italian rider Vincenzo Nibali was seriously injured after being involved in an accident while winning Paris-Roubaix. And last year, Danish rider Mads Kristoffersen suffered serious head injuries when he crashed during stage 6 of the Tour de France.
This spate of cycling accidents has raised concerns about cyclists’ safety, with some calling for stricter regulation and better training standards for professionals. While there is no single answer to preventing these crashes, it is clear that we need to do more to make sure that riders are safe and protected on the roads.
