Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis is facing a setback after suffering a right soleus strain during Game 4, leading to an expected absence for several upcoming games.

Sources revealed to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Tuesday that Porzingis’ injury mirrors the calf strain that has sidelined Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo during this postseason.

The Celtics confirmed Porzingis’ absence from Wednesday’s Game 5 but refrained from providing a specific timeline for his return beyond that.

The injury occurred in the first half of Monday’s Game 4 victory against the Miami Heat when Porzingis appeared to tweak something while making a play alongside Jaylen Brown.

As he received a pass from Brown late in the second quarter, Porzingis grimaced while attempting to drive to his left, quickly relinquishing the ball and visibly limping.

Despite not encountering contact from any opposing player during the play, Porzingis’ discomfort was evident. Following the game, he exited the locker room area with a gray walking boot on his right foot, indicating the severity of the injury. Porzingis underwent imaging tests on Tuesday to assess the extent of the damage.

Having been a key contributor throughout the regular season, averaging 20.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists, Porzingis played a significant role in Boston’s successful campaign, securing the league’s best record of 64-18 and the top seed in the playoffs.

With the Celtics holding a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series against the Heat, Porzingis’ absence presents a challenge as they aim to close out the series at TD Garden on Wednesday. Despite his setback, the team remains focused on maintaining their momentum and securing victory in his absence.
