Manchester United signed Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich on Tuesday. De Ligt, a 25-year-old center back from the Netherlands, signed a five-year contract with an option for an additional year.
Mazraoui, a 26-year-old full back from Morocco who can play on either side, agreed to a contract lasting until June 2028, also with an option for one more year.
Although the transfer fees were not officially announced, British media reported that United paid 60 million pounds ($77 million) for both players.
Earlier on Tuesday, United sold Aaron Wan-Bissaka to West Ham for a reported 15 million pounds ($19 million). Wan-Bissaka, known for his strong one-on-one defending, will compete with Vladimir Coufal for the right-back position at West Ham and returns to London, where he started his career at Crystal Palace.
This move completes a major change to United’s defense. The club had already strengthened their back line by signing 18-year-old center back Leny Yoro from Lille for 62 million euros ($68 million).
