LIV Golf Louisiana was originally set to begin on June 25, but Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois confirmed the delay in a joint statement.
According to state officials, the event is now expected to be reimagined for a fall date, with discussions ongoing between LIV Golf and Louisiana authorities. The revised scheduling aims to avoid conflicts with major sporting broadcasts such as the FIFA World Cup, reduce extreme summer heat conditions, and ensure the golf course is in optimal playing condition. Both parties described the adjustment as part of a “re-envisioned event in the fall,” signaling continued cooperation despite the postponement.

The decision comes during a turbulent period for LIV Golf, which has faced growing scrutiny over its financial stability. Reports earlier in April suggested that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), the league’s primary financial backer, was considering withdrawing its investment. While LIV has attracted high-profile players such as Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Phil Mickelson since its 2022 launch, the league has struggled to achieve consistent commercial success and reportedly continues to incur heavy losses.
LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil pushed back against concerns, assuring staff that the league remains fully funded and operational. In an internal message, he emphasized that LIV Golf is continuing “exactly as planned, uninterrupted and at full throttle.” The league recently completed its Mexico City event as scheduled, reinforcing its claim of ongoing stability despite outside speculation.
Negotiations regarding the New Orleans event intensified after Louisiana officials initiated direct communication with LIV leadership. Bourgeois and O’Neil reportedly held discussions to align on a postponement strategy, ultimately agreeing to delay the tournament due to “LIV Golf’s changing business model,” according to reports from The Athletic.

Financially, the state of Louisiana had committed approximately $7 million toward hosting the event at Bayou Oaks at City Park. Around $2 million was already invested in course improvements, with an additional $5 million earmarked for hosting fees. With the postponement, only a portion of the planned expenditure was used, and LIV Golf is expected to return about $1.2 million to the state.
The New Orleans tournament was one of five LIV Golf events scheduled in the United States this season. Despite the postponement, the league’s calendar continues, with its next event set for May 7 at President Donald Trump’s golf course in Virginia. The 2026 LIV Golf season is still scheduled to conclude with the team championship in Michigan from August 27 to 30.
