Richie Palacios jogs to first base after walking in the go-ahead run

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Richie Palacios was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday due to a sprained right knee.

Palacios left Wednesday’s game against Miami after hurting his knee when he slid head-first into second base in the second inning.

Before Friday’s game against Houston, Rays manager Kevin Cash said Palacios is expected to be out for four to six weeks. He mentioned that Palacios likely won’t need surgery but will be sidelined for the next 10 to 15 days before they assess his condition further.

“Then, we’ll see how he’s feeling, how he’s moving around,” Cash said. “Then have another doctor visit.”

Palacios, who is 27 years old, has a .233 batting average in 88 games with the Rays, including five home runs, 21 RBIs, and 19 steals.

To fill his spot, the Rays have called up outfielder Kameron Misner from Triple-A Durham.
