The Tampa Bay Rays lost their chance for a combined no-hitter when Arizona’s Corbin Carroll hit a leadoff single against Tyler Alexander in the seventh inning on Sunday.

Carroll hit a ball into shallow left field that shortstop Taylor Walls just missed trying to catch with his bare hand. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. followed Carroll with another hit.

Drew Rasmussen struck out two batters in two perfect innings as the opener for Tampa Bay. Alexander allowed one baserunner before the seventh, walking Geraldo Perdomo to start the fourth inning.

Gurriel was thrown out by Walls on a grounder in the first inning that was deflected by a diving Junior Caminero at third base.

The Rays led 6-1.
