The Titans ended their 3-0 preseason with a 30-27 win over the Saints on Sunday. Head coach Brian Callahan called the team’s offensive performance this summer “really encouraging” in his postgame comments.
Starting quarterback Will Levis and the first team scored 10 points on their two drives before the backups took over for the rest of the game.
Levis mentioned that the performance “just improved the confidence we already had” in the offense’s abilities and the game gave everyone in Nashville some positive feelings heading into the regular season.
However, Callahan pointed out that these results from August don’t automatically carry over to the regular season.
“Potential doesn’t really mean much,” Callahan said, according to Nick Suss of the Tennessean. “We’ve got to prove it and we’ve got to prove it every week.”
He added that while the team is in a good spot as training camp ends, there is still a lot to work on in various areas. Ending training camp and the preseason in the way they did shows they have a chance to be competitive.
The Titans offense has struggled the past few seasons, so any sign of improvement is a reason for hope for 2024. But if they don’t perform well in Chicago on September 8, that hope might fade, so Callahan will likely keep emphasizing that potential alone is not enough without actual results.
