Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon and his wife, Natalie, announced on Tuesday that they are donating $1 million to the Children’s Hospital of Colorado.

McMahon, who has a six-year, $70 million contract that lasts until 2027, mentioned that he and his wife, who recently became parents, wanted to support children in need.

“I’ve always loved being around kids,” McMahon said. “I think they’re the purest form of human. They’re not messing up like the rest of us.”

A portion of the donation will go toward a hospital endowment that provides funds to help families manage expenses while caring for sick children. Some of the money will also be used for direct support to families.
