The final score was closer than some of the Dolphins’ previous games against the Bills, but the outcome was still the same.
Bills kicker Tyler Bass’s 61-yard field goal at the end of the game secured a 30-27 win for Buffalo, improving their record to 6-1 against Miami since Mike McDaniel became the head coach.
The Dolphins fought hard and managed to tie the game twice in the second half before Bass’s winning kick. McDaniel tried to highlight the positive aspects of their performance.
“There’s no moral victories,” McDaniel said, according to a transcript from the team. “We lost as a team, and you want all three phases to feel they could have been the reason for a win.
But there is growth, and you have to emphasize that because you want to keep moving forward. You don’t want to take a step back. This will hurt, but it doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing in the long run. It really depends on how you handle it. I think the guys are motivated.”
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa mentioned, through Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, that he felt the game showed “we are taking a step in the right direction,” but slow progress isn’t enough at this point. The Dolphins are 2-6, which means they have a lot of ground to cover and no room for mistakes as they head into the second half of their season.
