Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr. had to leave the game against the New York Jets on Thursday night because of a hurt left ankle.
Anderson, who was the No. 3 pick in last year’s draft, got injured with 7:18 left in the first quarter while trying to tackle Breece Hall on a 12-yard run. He was seen on his knees on the field, clearly in pain and hitting the ground with his hand. He needed help to get off the field.
The Texans said in the third quarter that Anderson was questionable to come back.
Before the injury, Anderson had achieved a career-high of 7 1/2 sacks, tying him for third in the NFL. He also had 39 quarterback pressures, ranking fourth in the league, according to Next Gen Stats.
The Texans also faced another setback when left guard Kenyon Green was ruled out at halftime due to a left shoulder injury.
The Jets had their own injury issues, losing left guard John Simpson to a groin injury, while backup offensive lineman Jake Hanson was also ruled out with a hamstring injury.
