In a surprising move ahead of Week 5’s clash against the Tennessee Titans, the Indianapolis Colts finalized a three-year contract extension with All-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor on Saturday.
There had been tension between Taylor and the Colts throughout the NFL offseason over contract negotiations. This disagreement had prompted Taylor to request a trade from the team. Colts’ owner Jim Irsay was steadfast in his stance against trading one of their most valued players and was hesitant about extending his contract.
The Colts later gave Taylor and his agent the green light to explore trade opportunities. There were talks about a potential deal with the Miami Dolphins, but it didn’t materialize, causing further tension within the Colts’ camp.
However, the dust seems to have settled now. Taylor’s agent, in a statement via Dianna Russini of The Athletic, clarified the reasons behind the successful negotiations on Saturday.
With Taylor secured, the Colts boast one of the NFL’s most potent running attacks. Their rookie quarterback, Anthony Richardson, has emerged as a formidable dual-threat, making him one of the most agile players in his role.
