Kyler Murray in the training drills

Kyler Murray will not play in the Arizona Cardinals’ three preseason games as the team aims to keep him healthy for the upcoming season.

Coach Jonathan Gannon mentioned on Tuesday that he is pleased with how the offense is performing and believes Murray will be ready to be at his best for the season opener.

Murray, 26, missed about 11 months over the past two seasons after injuring his right knee in a game during the 2022 season. He missed the first nine games of last season before returning.

Gannon noted that Murray will get some practice against another team when the Cardinals have joint practices with the Indianapolis Colts next week.

Gannon also pointed out that the three preseason games will be important for deciding on a backup quarterback. The main contenders are Desmond Ridder, who started 13 games for the Falcons last season, and second-year player Clayton Tune.
