Michael Thomas, former wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints, is still without a team as a free agent. However, even if he signs with a team soon, he won’t be available for the season opener. The NFL has imposed a one-game suspension on Thomas, according to a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. This suspension falls under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy.

The suspension is linked to an incident that occurred in November 2023, where Thomas was arrested for simple battery and criminal mischief. Allegedly, Thomas threw a brick at a construction worker’s truck windshield in his neighborhood. Additionally, he is accused of forcibly knocking a phone out of someone’s hand and shoving them during the altercation.

Thomas’s career, which was once on an upward trajectory, has been hampered by injuries in recent years. In 2019, he set the NFL record for the most receptions in a single season with 149. Unfortunately, an ankle injury in Week 1 of the 2020 season significantly derailed his career, leading to him missing the entire 2021 season and playing only a handful of games in the subsequent seasons of 2022 and 2023.

Despite these setbacks, Thomas had an impressive start to his career, earning three Pro Bowl selections and two All-Pro honors within his first four seasons. He was widely considered a future Hall of Famer during this period. However, his recent legal issues and injury-plagued seasons have cast doubt on his future in the NFL.
