Report: Patrick Mahomes’ Dad Arrested for DWI Ahead of Chiefs’ NFL Super Bowl 58 Game

Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, marking his third such offense, as reported by Jesse Newell of the Kansas City Star.

This recent incident adds to Mahomes Sr.’s history of legal troubles related to alcohol. He was previously charged with his second DWI offense in 2018, to which he pleaded guilty, serving a 40-day sentence in a county jail.

He had faced DUI charges in 1994 following a one-car accident. Moreover, in 2016, during a matchup between TCU and Texas Tech—his son’s alma mater—he was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

This latest arrest comes just a week before Mahomes Jr. and the Chiefs are scheduled to face the San Francisco 49ers at Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. Despite the circumstances, Mahomes Sr. expressed his intention to attend the game in an interview with CNN’s Ben Morse.

Reflecting on his son’s remarkable career, Mahomes Sr. emphasized the rarity and significance of competing at the highest level, particularly at such a young age. He marveled at his son’s rapid success, likening it to nothing he had witnessed before, even among other great athletes like Alex Rodriguez and Rickey Henderson.

Acknowledging the possibility of his son reaching Tom Brady’s record-setting seven rings, Mahomes Sr. tempered expectations, noting that it’s still too early to anoint him as the Greatest of All Time (GOAT).

Despite his admiration for Brady and his own affinity for Joe Montana, Mahomes Sr. believes his son is on the right path but acknowledges the legacy and impact of football’s all-time greats.
