In a trade agreement with Pittsburgh, the Bears secured a third-day pick in the 2025 draft in exchange for Fields, the No. 11 overall pick in 2021. This pick could potentially escalate to a fourth-rounder if Fields participates in 51 percent of the offensive snaps for the Steelers this season.
The trade indicates that the market for Fields was less than impressive, prompting the Bears to cut their losses and transition toward the future.
The Bears officially announced the trade on Saturday night, with General Manager Ryan Poles explaining the decision: “We have engaged in multiple trade conversations in recent weeks and believe trading Justin at this time to Pittsburgh is what is best for both Justin and the Bears.”
Fields, who amassed impressive statistics during his time with the Bears, expressed his gratitude to Chicago in a farewell message on social media: “Can’t say thank you enough to the city of Chicago for taking me in and embracing me… Ready for this next chapter!”
