Desmond Ridder

The Falcons once envisioned Desmond Ridder as their quarterback of the future. However, his performance running the offense in 2023 led to the team signing Kirk Cousins and installing him as their quarterback for the foreseeable future.

Now, it seems the Falcons are exploring options to trade Ridder. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Falcons have been engaged in discussions with other teams regarding a deal involving Ridder, and they anticipate trading the 2022 third-round pick.

Ridder has started 17 games in his first two NFL seasons, completing 64 percent of his passes. During this time, he threw 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, while also losing nine fumbles. His turnovers often occurred at critical moments, contributing to Falcon’s losses.

Given his track record and the current quarterback landscape across the league, Ridder’s prospects for securing a starting role appear slim. However, teams that admired his college performance at Cincinnati may view him as a valuable developmental project for a backup role.
