To replace Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins will not choose a player who is familiar with their offense.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, the Dolphins are planning to sign quarterback Tyler Huntley from the Ravens’ practice squad.

C.J. Beathard, who is familiar with the Miami offense from his previous time with San Francisco, was considered for the role. Other candidates, like former Dolphins backup quarterback Mike White, were not chosen.

Huntley had spent four years with the Ravens before joining the Browns. After being released by Cleveland, he returned to Baltimore.

In 2022, despite making only six appearances and four starts, Huntley managed to earn a spot in the Pro Bowl.

He will join Skylar Thompson as the other healthy quarterback on the active roster, while Tim Boyle remains on the Miami practice squad.

Since it’s not clear how long Tua will be out, it’s uncertain if Huntley’s role will be temporary or longer-term.
