The Baltimore Ravens chose Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins with the 30th pick in the NFL draft on Thursday night, strengthening their secondary towards the end of a first-round that saw fewer defensive selections.
Last season, the Ravens dealt with injuries in their secondary despite having the best record in the NFL during the regular season. This marks the first time since 2017 that Baltimore has drafted a cornerback in the first round; back then, they selected Marlon Humphrey, who remains a part of the team.
While Iowa cornerback Cooper DeJean was also an option when Baltimore’s turn arrived, they went for the speedy Wiggins instead. Wiggins impressed with a 40-yard dash time of 4.28 seconds at the NFL’s scouting combine in March.
Apart from cornerback, the Ravens also have needs to address in the offensive line, as they need to replace three starters from last season.
