The Seattle Seahawks and safety Julian Love have agreed to a three-year contract extension potentially worth up to $36 million.

Love’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, confirmed the deal to The Associated Press on Wednesday after the Seahawks’ first day of training camp. This extension will keep Love with Seattle through the 2027 season.

At 26 years old, Love joined Seattle in 2023 on a two-year contract after three seasons with the New York Giants. He quickly became a key player in the Seahawks’ defense, valued for his ability to play multiple positions in the secondary.

Last season, Love started in 12 of 17 games, achieving career highs in solo tackles (85) and interceptions (four). His performance earned him a Pro Bowl selection and NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors in Week 15, where he made nine tackles and two interceptions against Philadelphia.

Mike Macdonald talks to the media

Love has been highlighted as a player who could excel in new head coach Mike Macdonald’s defensive scheme, praised for his versatility.

“Julian, in particular, is someone we can move around and utilize effectively,” Macdonald said during offseason activities in May.

Macdonald also commended Love’s leadership and composure on the field.

“He demonstrates elite poise on the field, which sets a standard for our team. Even in challenging moments, he maintains his calm and focuses on the next play. His ability to communicate effectively reflects his impact on our defense,” Macdonald added.
