Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels’s availability for the team’s Week 8 game against the Chicago Bears is uncertain after he hurt his ribs in the first quarter against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Coach Dan Quinn announced that Daniels will not practice on Wednesday, and Marcus Mariota will take the first-team snaps instead. Quinn mentioned he would provide an update on Daniels’s condition after Friday’s practice, depending on whether the rookie can participate this week.

At first, Quinn indicated that Daniels is week-to-week, but the team remains hopeful he can play on Sunday.

“I want to make sure he can be, you know, fully express himself and do all of the things that he does, which makes him so unique and special,” Quinn said on Wednesday.

Sunday’s game against the Bears is eagerly awaited because it could feature the top two picks from this year’s draft, Caleb Williams and Daniels. However, it looks like Daniels might not be able to play.

In his almost seven games as a rookie, Daniels has completed 75.6% of his passes for 1,410 yards, with six touchdowns and two interceptions. He has also rushed 66 times for 372 yards and scored four touchdowns.

Mariota filled in for Daniels during the Commanders’ 40–7 victory over the Panthers, completing 18 of 23 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns.
