Dmitry Bivol avenged his first career loss and claimed the undisputed light heavyweight title by defeating Artur Beterbiev in a thrilling rematch in Saudi Arabia. Their previous encounter, four months ago, saw Beterbiev emerge victorious, handing Bivol a shock defeat. In their second showdown, Bivol was determined to settle the score and delivered a well-rounded performance to secure the win. The judges scored the fight in his favor, with two giving him a 116-112 and 115-113 advantage, while the third judge had it a draw at 114-114.

Bivol’s Confidence, Skill, and Strategy Lead to Victory Over Beterbiev’s Power

Bivol attributed his victory to his increased confidence and determination. “I was better. I was pushing myself more. I was more confident. I was lighter, and I just wanted to win so much today,” he said after the fight, proudly holding all four championship belts. Although the two fighters appeared evenly matched in the early rounds, Bivol began to dominate in the middle rounds, showcasing his exceptional boxing skills and power. His ability to avoid Beterbiev’s counterattacks while landing his own shots became evident as the fight progressed.

Despite Beterbiev’s experience and power, he was unable to stop Bivol from securing the victory. In the 12th round, Beterbiev did manage to land a powerful right hand that opened a cut above Bivol’s left eye. However, it was too late to change the outcome of the fight. Bivol held on and successfully secured the win, handing Beterbiev his first career defeat. “I just wanted to work from the first round until the end of the 12th,” Bivol commented, reflecting on the strategy that led him to the championship.

Bivol’s Surprising Loss, Intense Rematch, and Beterbiev’s Desire for Revenge Continue Rivalry

Bivol’s loss to Beterbiev had come as a surprise to many, particularly following his victory over Canelo Álvarez in 2022. The rematch between Bivol and Beterbiev became highly anticipated, with both fighters eager to continue their rivalry. The second fight lived up to expectations, with both fighters showcasing their elite boxing skills. With Bivol now the undisputed light heavyweight champion, a potential third fight between the two seems likely, given the intensity and competitiveness of their bouts.

Despite Beterbiev admitting that he wasn’t initially eager for the rematch, he now relishes the opportunity to avenge his loss. “I think this fight was better than the first fight. Now it’s my time to come back,” Beterbiev said after the fight. He also expressed a willingness to face Bivol in a third encounter if needed. Meanwhile, earlier in the night, New Zealand’s Joseph Parker claimed a dominant second-round victory over Martin Bakole, potentially setting up a unification bout with Oleksandr Usyk.

Naoya Inoue, the undefeated world junior featherweight champion, dominated Ye-Joon Kim with a fourth-round knockout on Friday, setting up his next fight in the United States.

Inoue (29-0, 26 KOs), 31, nicknamed “The Monster,” ended Kim’s tough challenge with a powerful right hand to defend his four world titles at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan.

Inoue, who has held world championships in four weight classes, is a favorite among many boxing fans and proved why with a stunning knockout. This victory is expected to be the first of three fights for Inoue in 2025, with upcoming bouts in Las Vegas and Saudi Arabia.

Kim called Inoue forward in Round 4, but just moments later, he was knocked down by a right hand to the temple. The WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO 122-pound champion won easily in his 24th consecutive title defense and 10th straight stoppage.

“I’m pretty sure 2025 is going to be the big year for me,” Inoue said.

“In my opinion, it was a good match, but I didn’t have enough time to study my opponent, so I just took some time to see what he had to offer.”

Ranked No. 3 in ESPN’s latest pound-for-pound list, Inoue is now focused on bigger fights later this year. He might face Mexican Alan Picasso (31-0-1, 16 KOs), the WBC’s No. 1 challenger, in Las Vegas, according to ESPN’s Mike Coppinger.

Another potential matchup for the five-foot-five Inoue is against fellow Japanese boxer Junto Nakatani (29-0, 22 KOs), the WBC world bantamweight champion, who trains in Los Angeles.

Nakatani, 27, a three-weight world champion, will defend his title against David Cuellar Contreras in Japan on February 24. After Inoue’s win over Kim, promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank confirmed that Inoue will fight in Las Vegas in the spring.

“I just want to say another great performance by our champion here,” Arum said.

“And I observed that the great country of Japan has given [Shohei] Ohtani to the city of Los Angeles, and at least for one fight, the great country of Japan will give this great Inoue to the city of Las Vegas for one fight this spring.”

Inoue talks about his future fights

Inoue’s last fight in the U.S. was in 2021 when he knocked out Michael Dasmarinas in three rounds to defend his world bantamweight titles in Las Vegas. “2025 is the year for me to go overseas to fight,” Inoue said. “I’m planning to have a fight in Las Vegas and Saudi Arabia this year.”

“How complete am I? I’m not sure, but the only thing I can do is to get better each time I get in the ring. So, I’m going to fulfill my career until the end.”

Kim (21-3-2, 13 KOs) from South Korea, who wasn’t well-known, stepped in to fight Inoue on just two weeks’ notice after Australian Sam Goodman withdrew due to injury before their scheduled fight on Christmas Eve.

Kim came out in Round 1 using a defensive approach and the southpaw stance, but he faced more pressure in Round 2.

Inoue caught Kim with a short right hook when Kim was trapped in a corner and then landed a series of fast punches later in the second round.

By Round 3, Kim’s right eye had swollen from Inoue’s strikes, but Kim fought back in Round 4. That led to a strong response from Inoue, who fired off a combination of punches and knocked Kim down with a right hand, ending the fight.

In another fight on the card, Jin Sasaki won a unanimous decision (116-112, 118-110, 117-111) after a tough battle against Shoki Sakai, staying in the running for bigger welterweight bouts.

Sasaki (19-1-1, 17 KOs), 23, from Tokyo, took some hits as the two traded uppercuts in an exciting match.

Sasaki landed more punches, especially left hooks to the body, and an overhand right stunned Sakai (29-15-3, 15 KOs), 34, in Round 11. Sasaki, who is ranked No. 3 by the IBF and WBO and No. 4 by the WBA and WBC, called for a chance to fight one of the world champions in the welterweight division.

In the minimum weight (strawweight) division, Yuni Takada (16-8-3, 6 KOs) won a split decision (113-114, 116-111, 114-113) against Goki Kobayashi (8-2, 5 KOs), getting closer to a potential world title shot.

The debate over whether boxers earn more than MMA fighters is a common topic among combat sports enthusiasts. High-profile earnings in boxing—like Floyd Mayweather’s nine-figure paydays—often overshadow the perceived modest paychecks of mixed martial artists, sparking assumptions that boxers universally earn more. However, this simplistic view fails to account for the complex financial structures, revenue streams, and disparities that exist in both sports. To truly understand the earning potential in boxing and MMA, it is essential to look beyond headline-making figures and consider average payouts, median incomes, and the systemic factors influencing fighter pay.

Boxing and MMA differ significantly in organizational structure, which directly impacts fighter earnings. Boxing operates as a fragmented industry, with fighters negotiating their terms with independent promoters, broadcasters, and sanctioning bodies. This decentralized model allows elite boxers to capitalize on competitive bidding among promoters and secure substantial purses.

In contrast, MMA—dominated by the UFC—functions more like a centralized league. The UFC controls the vast majority of elite fighters and events, making it the premier organization in MMA. While this model has contributed to the UFC’s global success, it also limits fighters’ bargaining power, as few alternatives exist for earning similar levels of exposure and income outside the UFC. This consolidation impacts pay scales and leaves MMA fighters at a disadvantage compared to boxers, who often enjoy more lucrative opportunities at the negotiation table.

When comparing fighter pay, fans often cite the enormous purses of athletes like Floyd Mayweather or Conor McGregor. Mayweather’s $100 million-plus paydays dwarf McGregor’s record UFC earnings of around $10 million for a single fight. However, these comparisons focus on outliers rather than averages, failing to represent the majority of fighters in either sport.

A more accurate assessment emerges from examining average and median pay levels across a broader spectrum of fighters. This approach provides a clearer picture of the financial realities faced by most boxers and MMA fighters, who are far removed from the highest echelons of their sports.

Analyzing the Numbers: A Comparative Study

A detailed analysis of 2015 fighter pay from Nevada, California, and Florida highlights significant disparities between boxing and MMA earnings. The dataset covered 148 events, including 826 MMA fighters and 1,320 boxers, with payouts ranging from $0 to $100 million.

These figures reveal stark contrasts. While top-tier UFC fighters fare better than many of their MMA counterparts, their earnings still fall short of elite boxers’ pay. Additionally, the median earnings in both sports highlight that most fighters earn relatively modest amounts, with MMA fighters disproportionately represented in the lowest income brackets.

Median earnings provide a crucial insight into the financial struggles faced by lower-tier fighters. In boxing, 23% of athletes earned $1,000 or less per fight in the analyzed dataset. In MMA, this figure was significantly higher, with 48% of fighters earning $1,000 or less. These statistics underscore the harsh economic realities for the majority of fighters in both sports, where only a select few earn substantial sums.

For MMA fighters, the issue is exacerbated by the UFC’s market dominance. Unlike boxers, who can negotiate with multiple promoters, most MMA fighters must adhere to the UFC’s pay structure, which prioritizes profits for the organization over generous payouts for its athletes.

High Earners: Boxing’s Dominance

The disparity between boxing and MMA is most evident at the highest income levels. Of the 19 highest-paid fighters in the analyzed dataset, all were boxers. Floyd Mayweather’s $100 million payday for his fight against Manny Pacquiao dwarfed the earnings of MMA’s top earners. Anderson Silva, the highest-paid MMA fighter in the dataset, earned $800,000, a fraction of Mayweather’s earnings.

This trend reflects boxing’s ability to generate massive purses for marquee events, driven by pay-per-view sales, ticket revenue, and lucrative sponsorship deals. While the UFC also generates substantial revenue, its centralized structure limits fighters’ ability to negotiate a larger share of the financial pie.

Revenue Streams: A Tale of Two Models

Contrary to popular belief, the UFC often outpaces boxing in annual revenue through diversified streams, including pay-per-view events, video games, merchandise, and global media deals. However, the distribution of this revenue heavily favors the UFC as an organization rather than its fighters. It is estimated that UFC fighters receive around 20% of the organization’s revenue, compared to boxers, who typically receive 60-80% of event revenue under the Muhammad Ali Act.

This disparity highlights the importance of revenue-sharing structures in determining fighter pay. The Ali Act mandates transparency in boxing, requiring promoters to disclose financial details to fighters and ensuring a fairer distribution of revenue. MMA lacks similar protections, leaving fighters with limited insight into the financial details of their events.

The UFC’s position as the dominant MMA organization creates unique challenges for fighters seeking fair pay. As a near-monopoly, the UFC controls most of the sport’s top talent and revenue-generating events, limiting competition among promoters. While this model has streamlined the growth of MMA and increased its global appeal, it has also restricted fighters’ earning potential.

Unlike boxing, where athletes can negotiate with multiple promoters, UFC fighters must adhere to the organization’s pay structure, which includes strict contract terms, performance bonuses, and sponsorship limitations. This centralized model has been criticized for prioritizing the UFC’s profits over the financial well-being of its athletes.

Why Do Boxers Earn More Than MMA Fighters Examining the Pay Gap in Combat Sports

Potential Reforms and Challenges

Efforts to improve fighter pay in MMA have included proposed extensions of the Muhammad Ali Act to cover MMA, unionization attempts, and antitrust lawsuits against the UFC. These initiatives aim to increase transparency, enhance bargaining power, and create a more equitable distribution of revenue for fighters. However, they face significant obstacles, including:

Resistance from the UFC: As the dominant organization, the UFC has little incentive to support changes that could reduce its profitability or increase fighters’ leverage.

Lack of Fighter Solidarity: Unionization efforts in MMA have struggled due to the diverse backgrounds and priorities of fighters, who often prioritize individual careers over collective action.

Legal and Legislative Hurdles: Expanding the Ali Act to cover MMA requires legislative action, which is a slow and uncertain process.

Despite these challenges, ongoing efforts to improve transparency and competition in MMA could eventually lead to higher pay and better conditions for fighters.

The debate over fighter pay in boxing and MMA reveals stark contrasts in how the two sports operate. While boxers generally earn more than MMA fighters, this disparity is not universal and depends heavily on the level of competition, organizational structure, and revenue-sharing mechanisms. For most fighters, the financial realities are challenging, with median earnings reflecting modest paychecks and limited opportunities for financial security.

Addressing these disparities requires systemic reforms in MMA, including increased transparency, improved revenue-sharing models, and enhanced bargaining power for fighters. Until these changes occur, the gap between boxing and MMA pay will persist, leaving many fighters striving for a fairer share of the sports they dedicate their lives to.

Controversial boxing promoter Don King and his Florida-based production company are being sued by BYD Sports and its CEO Cecil Miller in a civil case for fraud, defamation, breach of contract, and other charges. They are seeking $3 billion in damages, according to a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

The complaint and court documents outline that King encouraged Miller to organize a 50th-anniversary event called Rumble in the Jungle 2 in Africa, which Miller pursued despite not having a formal agreement.

After setting up plans for a major boxing event in Nigeria, which included performances by stars like John Legend, Alicia Keys, and Wyclef Jean, King allegedly withdrew when Miller asked for his help promoting it, distancing himself from Miller before the event could be finalized.

Attorney Anthony J.M. Jones, representing Miller, said King caused the event to fall apart at the last minute after trying to stay uninvolved in the planning. Jones called it “a sad day for the sport,” adding that it was now too late to stage the anniversary of the historic 1974 Ali vs. Foreman fight in Africa.

King did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The court documents also include a cease-and-desist letter from King that was similar to one he posted on Instagram, accusing Miller of falsely claiming that King had authorized the event. Miller’s lawyer denied these accusations, calling King’s actions “sabotage.”

The complaint reveals that King and Miller had a good relationship early on. King claimed his past controversies were behind him and that he had turned to religion after his wife’s death in 2010. He told Miller, referred to in the complaint as “a preacher’s son,” that working together could help improve his reputation.

They made a deal for a fight involving boxer Alonzo “Big Zo” Butler and King’s company, Don King Productions. The fight took place in August 2021, but both fighters have since passed away.

Don King is accused of bailing on a boxing event and is being charged with fraud

Afterward, King mentioned plans for Rumble in the Jungle 2 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the famous Ali vs. Foreman fight. The original 1974 bout, held in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is remembered for Ali’s strategic victory over the undefeated Foreman, and it helped make King famous. Miller was excited about King’s idea, according to the complaint.

As their friendship grew, King gave Miller a rare coin and spoke to his father and daughter. A year later, Miller followed up with King about the anniversary event. At the time, King was 92 years old, and Miller believed he could help organize the event in Africa in 2024.

Miller claims BYD sent King a proposal to make their partnership official, but King did not provide a written response. Despite this, King continued to check in verbally with Miller about the event’s progress.

Miller brought in bankers from Africa and the U.S. to help, and King was aware of the event’s development. Instead of signing an agreement, they decided to post a video on social media where King confirmed his involvement.

In January 2024, they discussed Nigeria as a possible venue for the event, along with the Global Entrepreneurship Festival. Miller’s BYD and festival organizers entered into a memorandum of understanding for five boxing matches in front of invited guests, including world leaders and industry heads.

But when BYD invited King to join a Zoom meeting to promote the event in July, King allegedly ignored calls and emails between July and October.

Miller then found out that King allegedly did not own the rights to the Rumble in the Jungle name. Despite this, Miller continued to pursue the event, exploring licensing the name and seeking other options. He also recruited boxing champions and began working with a pay-per-view partner and potential sponsors.

But in October, King claimed he knew nothing about Miller’s plans and sent cease-and-desist letters to Nigerian officials, causing the event to fall apart.

The complaint also states that the original Ali vs. Foreman fight earned $100 million at the time, which would be equivalent to $600 million today. Miller is seeking $600 million in damages and an additional $2.4 billion in potential damages, along with a formal apology from King.

Muhammad Ali, the name is enough to describe all the emotions one feels for this man. The greatest of all time, the G.O.A.T. To explain it simply, in an interview Mike Tyson once said, “Every head must bow and every tongue must confess, Muhammad Ali is the greatest fighter God has ever created”. This is it. You cannot explain this guy any better. When you saw him inside the ring, Ali never looked like a heavyweight, he was too quick to be a heavyweight. It was the speed, and accuracy of all his shots, combined with the machismo, and charisma that made him what he is. There has never been a fighter like him before and there will never be a fighter like him in the future. There is only Muhammad Ali.

Apart from all the boxing skills he possessed, there was a huge element of ‘Trash Talking’ in him. Of course, to back them up, he had everything he needed to have. Mentally, he was the strongest, if not physically. But it is said that the majority of the players lost to him mentally before even entering the ring. That was his style and he succeeded in it with brilliance and grace. He was boxing at a time, which is regarded as the best period in heavyweight history. There were so many brilliant boxers, majority of greats are from that era, And still, being able to be at the top is just incredible.

Muhammad Ali: Life And Career

Born on 17 January 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky, Muhammad Ali was born Cassius Marcellus Clay. He made his first professional appearance as a 17-year-old. He was so quick on his feet, that it became really difficult for other fighters to guess his next movements. He quickly climbed up the ranks in the heavyweight division. Clay made himself the number one contender for the title against Sonny Liston. However, many people assumed that it is just a fluke. Many further statements were made against Cassius and his game.

“He would be floored to the ground in no time”, many fans made statements. On February 25, 1963, the title fight between Sonny Liston and Cassius Clay happened. The fight was ferocious, a lot of dirty tactics were being used by Liston. Clay dominated him in the first two rounds and therefore, Liston and his team devised a plan. They applied some ointment on his gloves which irritated Clay’s eyes, him complaining of some burning sensation. Then also, Liston was unable to defeat Clay, even when Clay was having a problem with one of his eyes. Eventually, Clay won the fight with a knockout and was declared the new heavyweight champion.

Main Fights

His reign continued before he was stripped of his title because of his political remarks on the US- Vietnam war. He made a comeback in the fight against Joe Frazier, but now as Muhammad Ali. He converted to Islam as he felt a connection with the religion and also thought that Cassius is a slave name. However, he lost the fight against Joe, making it his first loss in the heavyweight division. There was a round two between both the boxers and it was termed ‘The Fight of the Century.

Muhammad Ali won the fight and took his title back. After this iconic fight, his fight against George Foreman was one of the biggest fights in his career. It was named ‘Rumble In the Jungle’ which Ali won via knockout. It is one of the most iconic knockouts in the history of boxing.

Earnings And Net Worth

The greatest of all time, Muhammad Ali earned $2.5 million in his fight against Frazier. His biggest paycheck was $15 million against Larry Holmes. His net worth at the time of his death was $50 million.

Joe Frazier was an American professional boxer from the 60s to the early 80s. He is the first boxer to beat Muhammad Ali. Known for the relentless pressure on his opponents and an unorthodox crouching style, Frazier is regarded as one of the greatest ever. During his career, he has been remembered for his rivalry with Ali and George Foreman. We all know what Muhammad Ali means to the world of boxing and how fearsome was George Foreman in his prime. Muhammad is regarded as the greatest of all time by the majority of all across the world. Foreman is regarded as the deadliest puncher in history and also knocked out most of his opponents.

Joe Frazier has been involved in a lot of amazing fights, but there is one fight in particular. ‘Thrilla In Manila’ or ‘Fight of the Century’ is recorded in the history books. This fight was between Foe Frazier and Muhammad Ali, their 2nd fight. In the first fight, Joe Frazier created history by defeating Muhammad Ali. It was Ali’s first ever career of such a glorious career. Ali even stated after they all retired that Joe Frazier was the toughest he ever faced. That has been Joe’s quality. The ability to take so many punches and then also to be able to stay on the feet was just marvelous. His pressure, continuous pressure, was too much for other boxers to handle. Truly, one of the greats of the sport.

Let us have a look at his life, career, earnings, and net worth.

Joe Frazier: Life and Career

Born on 12 January 1944, in South Carolina, US, Joe Frazier was the 12th child of Dolly Alston and Ruben. He worked as a farmer when he was young alongside his father. They had more than 10 acres of land, and Joe had a very good relationship with his dad. However, it was a difficult childhood as their parents had the responsibility of so many children. Making sure all the children had food on the table every night was a big responsibility. How he got into boxing is an interesting story. When his father got the black and white television for the first time at home, they all used to sit and watch boxing matches. From there, he got inspired by a lot of boxers and of course, the legendary Sugar Ray Robinson.

His amateur boxing career began in the early 60s. He was always in the heavyweight category and started winning a lot of junior championships. He was part of the 1964 Olympics team as a replacement. Joe reached the semi-final of the competition, where he had to face a boxer from the Soviet Union. It was a tough fight, but because Frazier’s left hook was his main weapon, the Soviet guy couldn’t handle it. Joe reached the final in his first-ever Olympics. A German opponent was waiting for him in the final. However, even with an injured left hand, Joe managed to win the final fight via decision, 3-2.

Earnings And Career

Joe Frazier had a Net Worth of $100k at the time of his death in 2011.

Julius Francis is a former British boxer who was fairly prominent from the mid-90s to the early 2000s. Starting from humble beginnings, Julius Francis turned pro at the age of 28 years old, when he won a five-round knockout match against Graham Arnold. Other notable fights of his include his feuds with Damien Caesar and Keith Fletcher, which put him on the map in the boxing world. Julius Francis further gained popularity in the media after his match with Mike Tyson in 2000. This marked the most decorated fight in his career. He would go on to have moderate success after his match with Tyson, with him eventually hanging up the gloves in 2006.

Now fast forward to 2022, Julius Francis works as security at Boxpark Wembley, and he went viral for knocking out an individual outside the club. The police are reviewing the footage, and as of now, no arrests have been made. The owners of Boxpark have come out in support of Julius Francis while also maintaining that the security and safety of the customers are their number one priority. However, with the footage suddenly popping up on social media, one cannot help but wonder how well Julius Francis is doing nowadays since he is working as a security. Thus we bring you a detailed report on the early life and net worth of former boxer Julius Francis.

Julius Francis Early Life

Julius Francis was born in Peckham, London, on the 8th of December 1964. He is British by nationality and is Christian by religion. He had a troubled youth before he found his calling in boxing. He claimed in an interview back in 2012 that he served time in almost every prison in London except Holloway and even ran riot as a Millwall football hooligan. His saving grace was boxing which dragged him away from the life of crime and gave him a fair chance at life.

Julius Francis’ Net Worth, Career Earning

As of 2022, Julius Francis has been reported to be worth USD 3 million. It can be difficult to draw an actual net worth of a person unless it has been reported by the person himself, however, going by our calculations, who once upon a time did earn USD 5 million, a net worth of around USD 3 million seems probable.

Julius Francis

A professional boxer in the UK in 2022 has the potential to earn $2,225 per night on average. However, considering that he was active 2 decades ago, by today’s standards, he might not be getting the same range, but he did not get less.

While many sites suggest that Julius Francis’s net worth is USD 200 Thousand, nobody on the internet has full disclosure on the exact amount since Julius himself has not revealed that information. However, considering the additional revenues plus his current job as security personnel, Julius Francis’s net worth might be more than $3 Million, owing to all the life savings.

Awards won by Julius Francis

Julius Francis, on turning professional, was able to win the regional Southern Area title. He would go on to lose it but eventually reclaim it as well. He would also contend for the European Championship in 1997. However, he was unable to win the belt. However, he did go on to win the Commonwealth and British belts in 1997. He further defended the British belt 3 times in his career and 4 times for the Commonwealth belt. He would also be the proud winner of the prestigious Lonsdale Belt, which is awarded to British champions who win three domestic title fights.

Mike Tyson vs Julius Francis

In what was the most monumental fight of his career, Julius Francis faced off against the former World heavyweight boxing champion and legend Mike Tyson on the 29th of January, 2000. The feared Mike Tyson was on a career decline and inching towards his retirement. Whereas Francis was fresh off three straight victories in London and also held the Commonwealth and British belts. On paper, Julius Francis had a much better chance, however, as soon as the fight started, the gulf in experience and intensity widened. Mike Tyson was able to dominate the majority of the match scoring five knockdowns over Francis in four minutes. However, being a fighting champion, Francis did not give in and fought heroically in the second round. Unfortunately, Julius Francis was unable to win the bout, with the eventual winner being Mike Tyson.

Now, it has been recently reported that due to the altercation outside Boxpark, Julius Francis has lost his security license and is now looking for a rematch, 22 years later, against Mike Tyson who himself has been quite active on the social media showing off his impressive shape and boxing skills.
