In New York, Booger McFarland said Josh Allen won MVP over Lamar Jackson due to “feelings.”

Josh Allen was named MVP at the NFL Honors ceremony last night, but this decision upset many people on social media. A lot of fans argued that Lamar Jackson should have won the award instead of Allen. One of the people who was upset about Jackson not winning was Booger McFarland.

“I thought it was wrong. I think you can make a case that Josh Allen did more with less … but if Lamar Jackson won the MVP last year, this year he’s been probably 1-and-a-half times better than last year,” McFarland said. “When you have humans voting on this award, we’re subjected to feelings. And those feelings are, (Jackson) has won two, we’ve gotta give Josh one.”

“It just goes to show you how us as humans, and I get it, when we vote on awards, our feelings get involved,” McFarland added.

Jackson became the first player in NFL history to have more passing yards, more passing touchdowns, fewer interceptions, a higher completion percentage, more rushing yards, and a higher rushing average than the MVP of that season.

MVP voting results showed that Allen received 383 points, including 27 first-place votes, narrowly beating Jackson, who had 362 points and 23 first-place votes. Jackson earned the most second-place votes at 26.

Josh Allen passes in the 1st half

Allen played a big role in leading the Bills to the AFC Championship for the second time in five seasons. He finished the 2024 regular season with 3,371 passing yards, 531 rushing yards, 41 offensive touchdowns, a 101.4 passer rating, and only six interceptions.

He earned AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors four times and made history as the first player to record at least 25 touchdowns, 10 rushing touchdowns, and one receiving touchdown in a season.

Jackson, who is no stranger to the MVP award after winning it in 2019 and last year, set career highs in the 2024 season with 4,172 passing yards, 41 touchdown passes, a 119.6 quarterback rating, and 316 completions.

He also led the league in rushing yards by a quarterback with 915 yards and became the first player in NFL history to have at least 4,000 passing yards and 800 rushing yards. Last month, Jackson was named the 2024 MVP by the Pro Football Writers of America.

Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and Jayden Daniels will miss the Pro Bowl Games in Las Vegas

Lamar Jackson from Baltimore, Josh Allen from Buffalo, and Jayden Daniels from Washington will not participate in the Pro Bowl Games this week.

The NFL announced its final rosters on Tuesday, and none of these quarterbacks were included. Drake Maye, a rookie from the New England Patriots, will replace Jackson for the AFC, while Russell Wilson from Pittsburgh will take Allen’s spot. Baker Mayfield from Tampa Bay will replace Daniels.

Allen and Daniels lost in their respective conference championship games last weekend, and Jackson’s season ended the previous week in the divisional round. Both Allen and Jackson are considered MVP favorites.

There were additional roster changes as well.

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook and center Connor McGovern were also named as replacements.

Cook will replace Baltimore’s Derrick Henry, who ran for 1,921 yards, ranking second in the NFL. Cook had 1,009 rushing yards and tied Henry and Detroit’s Jahmyr Gibbs for the league lead with 16 rushing touchdowns.

Josh Allen hands off to James Cook in the 1st half

McGovern will fill in for Kansas City center Creed Humphrey, as the Chiefs are heading to the Super Bowl to play Philadelphia on Feb. 9 after defeating Buffalo on Sunday.

Pittsburgh Steelers guard Isaac Seumalo will make his first Pro Bowl appearance, replacing Kansas City’s Trey Smith.

Seattle wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba will join Leonard Williams and Devon Witherspoon as the third Seahawks player at the Pro Bowl. He will replace Washington’s Terry McLaurin.

The Pro Bowl Games will take place from Thursday to Sunday in Orlando, Florida, and will include skills competitions and a flag football game.

This offseason may be straightforward for the Ravens in Baltimore, but tougher decisions are ahead next year

As long as Lamar Jackson stays healthy and continues to perform at an MVP level, the Baltimore Ravens will have a good chance to remain competitive. However, significant changes to the roster are more likely to occur next year than this offseason.

“Not as many tough decisions this year, looking at it, which I’m thankful for,” general manager Eric DeCosta said Wednesday at the team’s end-of-season news conference. “But obviously, as we look out, we’ll have some tough decisions after next season.”

DeCosta’s comments were focused on the tight end position, but his thoughts apply to the entire roster. The Ravens are expected to field a similar team next season after winning their second consecutive AFC North title, though they were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs at Buffalo.

Looking Back at Previous Offseasons

This year is a different situation from the past. Last offseason, the Ravens had to replace key players on the offensive line, running back, and linebacker. Two offseasons ago, the team had to deal with Lamar Jackson’s contract situation, which wasn’t resolved until after the team tagged him with the franchise tag.

Offensive Line Decisions

There’s some uncertainty about whether Ronnie Stanley and Patrick Mekari will return next season. Despite the unknowns, the Ravens successfully replaced three starters on the offensive line last year, without signing a major free agent.

“We made a tough call last year to go younger and have some younger guys play, and we knew we’d have a few growing pains. I think we had a few, but looking back on it, I think it was absolutely the right thing to do,” DeCosta said.

“We are aware that we have some guys whose contracts are up, and we’ll look at that and certainly have some discussions with players. We’ll look at potentially bringing back our guys. We’ll look at the draft. We’ll look at free agency.”

Key Free Agents to Watch

The Ravens would like to re-sign fullback Patrick Ricard, who is more valuable to them than to other teams. Wide receivers Nelson Agholor and Tylan Wallace, along with defensive back Brandon Stephens, are all set to be free agents.

The 2022 draft class is eligible for contract extensions, including standout players like safety Kyle Hamilton and center Tyler Linderbaum. Other contributors from that class, such as tight ends Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar, linebacker David Ojabo, defensive tackle Travis Jones, guard Daniel Faalele, and punter Jordan Stout, are entering the final year of their rookie deals.

A Crunch Next Offseason

The Ravens may face tougher decisions next offseason. After the 2025 season, several key players, including running back Derrick Henry, tight end Mark Andrews, linebackers Odafe Oweh and Kyle Van Noy, and nose tackle Michael Pierce, can become free agents.

Moves That Didn’t Work Out

DeCosta also reflected on a couple of moves that didn’t go as planned, such as signing safety Eddie Jackson and trading for wide receiver Diontae Johnson. Jackson was waived in November, and Johnson was suspended for refusing to enter a game. Johnson is now set to become a free agent.

“Eddie was a two-time Pro Bowl safety earlier in his career, and it really comes down to probably I failed. This was a guy who didn’t really want to accept his role as a backup safety and a special teamer, and I understand that,” DeCosta said.

“If I’m guilty of mistakes, it’s finding value but not always considering how that player is going to handle the situation that he’s being forced into. Eddie just wasn’t happy with his role. He wanted to play football.”

Looking Ahead with Optimism

Despite some setbacks, the Ravens have more positives than negatives this season. Both DeCosta and coach John Harbaugh believe this team has the potential to go further in the playoffs next year.

“We’re all disappointed. Our team is disappointed. We had higher aspirations, and we didn’t achieve those aspirations and goals, but I think it was a successful season,” DeCosta said. “I’m very proud of the team, the players, the coaches, support staff, everybody, and I’ve already moved on.”

The Ravens believe Lamar Jackson will lead them to a Super Bowl victory, calling it “inevitable” in Baltimore

The Baltimore Ravens are still confident that it’s only a matter of time before quarterback Lamar Jackson leads them to a Super Bowl victory, even after another disappointing loss.

Pro Bowl fullback Patrick Ricard shared his belief on Monday, saying, “It’s inevitable. He’s going to win a Super Bowl, and I want to be a part of it. It just sucks that it hasn’t happened yet.”

Jackson, the only player to win the NFL Most Valuable Player award twice without reaching a Super Bowl, has faced setbacks in the postseason. The Ravens’ 27-25 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday dropped Jackson’s playoff record to 3-5.

Sunday’s game was tough for Jackson, who threw an interception in the first quarter and lost a fumble in the second. However, after halftime, Jackson nearly orchestrated one of his best comebacks.

He threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Likely, bringing the Ravens within two points of the Bills at 27-25 with just 1 minute, 33 seconds left. But on the ensuing 2-point conversion attempt, tight end Mark Andrews dropped a pass that would have tied the game.

Ricard, feeling for his quarterback, said, “I personally feel bad for him because he deserves it just because of how great of a player he is. He deserves to be considered one of the best quarterbacks. He already is, but I know everyone considers championships as the standard, and he’ll get it one day.”

Lamar Jackson

Ricard likes to compare Jackson to former NFL star Peyton Manning. In their first seven seasons, both Jackson and Manning won multiple MVP awards but had 3-5 playoff records. Manning eventually won two Super Bowls. Ricard is confident that Jackson will follow the same path: “There’s still time. He’s still young. He’s definitely going to [get] one at some point.”

At 28 years old, Jackson could become the youngest player ever to win three MVP awards. The announcement will take place at the NFL Honors show on February 6.

This past season, Jackson had one of his best statistical years, becoming the first player in NFL history to throw more than 40 touchdown passes and fewer than five interceptions in a season. He finished with 41 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Despite his success in the regular season, Jackson has struggled in the playoffs. He has yet to win back-to-back postseason games and, since entering the NFL in 2018, his 11 turnovers in the playoffs are the most in the league during that period.

Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers acknowledged Jackson’s frustration after the loss, saying, “Oh, he’s mad. He’s mad for sure. We know our team. We know what we’re supposed to do and we know the only way that we can’t do what we want to is what we did yesterday. So I already know how he’s feeling.”

In Baltimore, Lamar Jackson will meet Josh Allen for a spot in the AFC Championship game

Lamar Jackson vs. Josh Allen won’t be about deciding the NFL MVP next week.

The real stakes are much higher, with a spot in the AFC Championship game up for grabs.

Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens (13-5) will face Allen and the Buffalo Bills (14-4) in the divisional round. Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs (15-2), the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, will host C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans (11-7).

The winners will meet on January 26 for a chance to reach the Super Bowl.

The Bills secured their spot with a 31-7 victory over the Denver Broncos on Sunday, while the Ravens advanced with a 28-14 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday night. The Texans triumphed 32-12 against the Chargers in the first game of wild-card weekend. The Chiefs got a bye after earning the No. 1 seed.

The AFC divisional matchups were decided before the NFC games kicked off.

On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Green Bay Packers 22-10 to move on to the divisional round. They will play the winner of the Vikings-Rams game at home, with Minnesota facing Los Angeles on Monday night in Arizona.

The Washington Commanders became the first road team to win in this year’s playoffs, beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-20 on Sunday night. The Commanders (13-5) will now take on the No. 1 seed Detroit Lions (15-2).

Josh Allen passes in the 1st half

Jackson edged Allen for the Associated Press All-Pro Team, earning 30 of 50 first-place votes from a nationwide media panel. Allen received 18 first-place votes, which earned him second-team All-Pro honors.

The last time an MVP winner didn’t make first-team All-Pro was in 2003, when Steve McNair and Peyton Manning shared the MVP award. Manning, however, earned All-Pro honors over McNair.

The only other time this happened was in 1987 when John Elway won the MVP while Joe Montana received All-Pro honors. Elway secured 36 MVP votes, with Montana receiving 18 and Jerry Rice finishing second with 30 votes.

Jackson, the two-time NFL MVP, completed 16 of 21 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns against Pittsburgh. He also ran for 81 yards on 15 carries.

Allen was 20 of 26 for 272 yards and two touchdowns against Denver. He also ran for 46 yards.

The two teams met in Baltimore during Week 4, where the Ravens dominated the Bills 35-10.

This will be the second time in recent history that the final four teams from a conference return for consecutive seasons. Last year, the Chiefs defeated the Bills and the Ravens beat the Texans. The previous occurrence was in 2011-12 when the Texans, Patriots, Ravens, and Broncos reached the divisional round in consecutive years.

Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa sidelined in Wednesday’s practice due to hip issue

Tua Tagovailoa was limited in Wednesday’s practice as he continues to deal with a right hip injury that kept him out of Week 17.

During the part of practice that was open to reporters, Tagovailoa didn’t do much. He stretched, jogged, and threw a football a few yards to backup quarterback Tyler “Snoop” Huntley.

Coach Mike McDaniel mentioned that Huntley will get more practice reps this week since the Dolphins have an important game coming up against the New York Jets. Miami needs to win to stay in the race for the final AFC wild-card spot.

“Today, I’m approaching it as I think Snoop is starting today,” McDaniel said Wednesday. “Obviously the team — it’s very easy for us to adjust as the week progresses. But I think you have to approach it a certain way, and then it’s an easy adjustment that we’re definitely open-minded to, considering our timeline last week.”

Miami needs a win and also requires the Broncos to lose to the Chiefs, who have already secured the AFC’s top seed and will start Carson Wentz at quarterback. This will give the Dolphins a chance at a playoff spot.

Mike McDaniel gestures in the news conference

“That’s what our focus has been firmly on,” McDaniel said, talking about the upcoming game. “I just really like the way our football has progressed during the season.

And this game is another opportunity to put our best foot forward, and we absolutely have an opportunity to play in the playoffs. We know our part of the bargain. That opportunity doesn’t exist unless we take care of it.”

Tagovailoa has not been ruled out for Sunday’s game.

He got hurt when he took a hit outside the pocket against Houston on Dec. 15, and the injury got worse the following week against San Francisco. This is the same hip Tagovailoa dislocated while at Alabama in 2019, which required surgery to end his season. However, McDaniel said this is not the same injury.

If Tagovailoa can’t play, Huntley would make his second straight start. It would also be his fifth start for the Dolphins, who signed him off the Ravens’ practice squad when Tagovailoa went on injured reserve with a concussion in September.

Huntley completed 22 of 26 passes for 225 yards, with one touchdown pass and one rushing touchdown, in a win over Cleveland last week.

He also has experience playing against Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers. In his third career start in 2021, Huntley stepped in for an injured Lamar Jackson and nearly led the Ravens to a comeback victory against Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

“We lost by one point,” Huntley said Wednesday, “but I feel like that was a big game. At the time, I think they only had lost four games that year. I can’t remember. They were a great team. That was a pretty good game.”

Huntley adds another dimension to Miami’s offense with his ability to extend plays using his legs. He led the Dolphins in rushing with 52 yards on seven carries against the Browns.

McDaniel said Huntley quickly earned the trust of his teammates.

“There’s been a lot of preparation that went into that Cleveland Browns game, I’ll tell you that,” McDaniel said. “He should be confident in his skills, and he is. That was something that was pretty evident and obvious how he boldly took control of the huddle being a couple weeks in, earlier in the season.

“There’s an ‘it factor’ that you talk about with quarterbacks, where you can galvanize and get people to believe they’re primed to have success with him leading. So I think he absolutely fits the bill for the timing of his ascension into playing.”

Ravens Coach Harbaugh Undecided on Lamar Jackson’s Start, Reflects on Playoff Strategy Ahead of Steelers Clash

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh revealed on Monday that he is yet to finalize a decision regarding the starting lineup for the upcoming Saturday game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a match that holds no significance for Baltimore. Following Sunday’s decisive 56-19 triumph over the Miami Dolphins, the Ravens secured both the AFC North title and the top seed in the AFC.

Harbaugh emphasized the need to assess the injury situation before reaching a conclusion, estimating that it would take approximately 24 to 48 hours to gain clarity. He assured transparency in the decision-making process, stating that the team would communicate its choices once practice commences on Wednesday.

In the event that Lamar Jackson, the frontrunner for the NFL MVP title, does not participate, he would enjoy a substantial 19-day break between games. Baltimore is set to host a divisional round game on either January 20 or 21.

The last instance of the Ravens resting starters occurred in 2019 when they held the AFC’s top seed. In that regular-season finale, Harbaugh opted to rest Jackson and six other key players. However, this strategy backfired in the subsequent divisional round, resulting in a 28-12 upset loss to the Tennessee Titans. Reflecting on this experience, Harbaugh acknowledged the differences in the current team’s composition and circumstances, emphasizing that past decisions were made for specific reasons.

Despite the setback in 2019, Harbaugh underscored the challenges of pinpointing the exact cause and effect leading to their subpar performance. He acknowledged the learning experience and highlighted the growth since then.

Nine players from the current 53-man roster were part of the 2019 playoff loss, serving as a reminder of the journey and lessons learned. Ravens offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley emphasized the significance of that experience in overcoming challenges and expressed awareness of the team’s ongoing aspirations.

Lamar Jackson, driving the Ravens to six consecutive victories and a league-best 13-3 record, is a strong contender for his second NFL MVP award. If Jackson is unable to start, backup Tyler Huntley is poised to step into the starting role.

Decoding the Collusion Puzzle: NFL Players Association’s Grievance Over Lamar Jackson’s Contract Raises Questions

Earlier this week, in light of renewed inquiries into the lack of efforts by other teams to secure quarterback Lamar Jackson with an offer sheet during the offseason, we asserted that collusion was at play. Some of you challenged us to provide evidence, and it appears the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) is attempting to do just that.

According to multiple sources, a collusion grievance filed in November 2022 is still pending. The NFLPA contends that teams reached an understanding to withhold fully guaranteed contracts from “certain quarterbacks” following the Cleveland Browns’ five-year, fully guaranteed deal with Deshaun Watson in March 2022.

Lamar Jackson
Lamar Jackson (Credits: NBC News)

We have learned that sworn testimony has been gathered through depositions. While the list of individuals questioned remains undisclosed, it is reasonable to assume that those familiar with the pursuit, or lack thereof, of Lamar Jackson, including Jackson himself, may have been called to provide insights.

Cases of this nature typically lack a definitive smoking gun, as individuals are cautious about admitting collusion or leaving a written evidence trail. Consequently, circumstantial evidence becomes crucial, such as public complaints by owners following Watson’s fully guaranteed $230 million contract with the Browns.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement establishes rules agreed upon by both the union and teams. While terms like the salary cap, franchise tag, and draft restrict player movement, players have consented to these provisions. Collusion arises if teams independently impose additional restrictions on free enterprise beyond what the CBA permits.

Despite Lamar eventually securing a favorable deal with the Ravens, there’s an argument that a more lucrative offer could have materialized had a team aggressively pursued him, similar to the Browns’ pursuit of Watson. Owners may publicly express a commitment to winning the Super Bowl, but an underlying, unspoken goal is often to curb players’ influence.

If the Watson contract had set a precedent rather than being an exception, it would have shifted the balance too much in favor of players for owners’ comfort. Even without direct evidence of owners explicitly agreeing to avoid offering fully guaranteed contracts to veteran franchise quarterbacks, the consistent failure to do so suggests a collective focus on what benefits the overall business, indicating collusion.

Bizarre Play Unfolds as Ravens’ Lamar Jackson Trips Over Referee, Draws Penalty in Clash Against 49ers

NFL officials have faced significant criticism throughout the year from players, coaches, and fans. However, in a Monday night game between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers, they appeared to have a moment of redemption.

In the early stages of the first quarter, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson found himself pursued by 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa in the Baltimore end zone. Umpire Alex Moore, closely observing the play, was backpedaling when he inadvertently fell into Jackson’s path.

Attempting to evade Moore, the Ravens star opted to leap over him but stumbled in the process. Despite his efforts to throw the ball away, it failed to reach the line of scrimmage. Consequently, Jackson received a penalty for intentional grounding, and as the incident occurred in the end zone, the 49ers were granted a safety, giving them a 5-0 lead.

The Ravens and 49ers matchup was a highlight of Week 16, with both teams positioned as potential Super Bowl contenders. Baltimore entered the game with the best AFC record at 11-3, while San Francisco boasted the best NFC record, also at 11-3.

Both teams were on impressive winning streaks, with Baltimore securing four consecutive victories and San Francisco on a six-game winning streak. Lamar Jackson, a key player in the game, was among the potential MVP candidates, alongside Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey, who were also recognized as potential MVP contenders after their recent win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Ravens Secure Reunion with Rookie QB Malik Cunningham, Reigniting Dynamic Connection with Lamar Jackson

A reunion is on the horizon in Baltimore as the Ravens secure rookie quarterback Malik Cunningham from the Patriots’ practice squad, marking his return to the roster, as reported by Cunningham to ESPN on Tuesday. This move brings him back together with former Louisville teammate Lamar Jackson, rekindling their connection from their shared season in 2017.

Cunningham, who wrapped up his collegiate career at Louisville with impressive stats, ranking fourth in passing yards (9,664) and third in rushing yards (3,184) in school history, had an eventful journey with the Patriots. Initially signed as a rookie free agent in May, he experienced a release in August but later joined the practice squad.

Despite a brief stint on the active roster, he found himself back on the practice squad after being released. During his time with the Patriots, Cunningham showcased versatility by playing as a receiver and even earned praise from offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien as one of the most improved practice squad players.

Expressing gratitude to Mr. Kraft and Coach Belichick for his time with the Patriots, Cunningham emphasized his excitement about the new opportunity with the Baltimore Ravens. As he boarded his flight, he acknowledged the valuable lessons learned and friendships forged in New England.

Looking ahead, Cunningham’s addition to the Ravens could have significant implications for the team in the upcoming seasons. With Tyler Huntley set to become an unrestricted free agent at the season’s end, Cunningham has the potential to solidify his role as the long-term backup to Lamar Jackson. Huntley, who has served as Jackson’s primary backup for the past three seasons, faces competition from Cunningham and Josh Johnson as the Ravens reportedly plan to retain all four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster.

As the Ravens prepare for the future, the reunion of Cunningham and Jackson brings an exciting prospect to Baltimore, with the young quarterback aiming to make his mark in the team’s dynamic lineup.
