In a shocking turn of events, New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones has been given another opportunity in Week 6 despite a string of disappointing performances that led to two consecutive losses with deficits of over 30 points.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick announced on October 11 that Jones would start against the Las Vegas Raiders, a decision that left many within the organization bewildered.
Reports from team sources revealed that Jones’ retention as the starting quarterback primarily stemmed from the unavailability of other viable options. The Patriots’ backup, a second-year player they had released six weeks prior, and a third-string journeyman, Will Grier, were deemed unfit choices.
The organization had a lot of doubts about Jones’ ability to recover, and some people questioned why they should give him another chance.
In the first three weeks of the season, Jones, a former No. 15 NFL Draft pick in 2021 from the prestigious college football powerhouse Alabama, had shown promise with five touchdown passes and just one interception. After the team’s most recent drubbing on October 9, Belichick expressed the need to “start over” due to his recent struggles.

Due to injuries, the offensive line of the Patriots struggled to protect Jones effectively, which resulted in a string of errors that further damaged his self-confidence. Despite these difficulties, some NFL insiders think Jones still has the ability to change things around because of his abilities as a quarterback.
Ironically, Jones now has the difficult task of turning around his fortunes in their upcoming game on the Ides of October against Josh McDaniels, his former offensive coordinator and current head coach of the Raiders.
