Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly eyeing a move for Sporting CP’s defensive midfielder Morten Hjulmand, a former Arsenal enthusiast.
According to the Portuguese outlet Record, it might pose a dilemma for the Denmark international to contemplate joining his childhood favorite club’s arch-rivals. Nevertheless, such a move could represent a significant career advancement, granting him the chance to compete in the Premier League.
Reports suggest that Spurs have been monitoring the 24-year-old for a considerable period. As per the aforementioned source, Hjulmand could potentially fill the void left by players like Oliver Skipp and Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, who have been linked with exits from north London.
Such a transfer would inevitably bring Hjulmand into proximity with his beloved club. To underscore his allegiance to the Gunners, Hjulmand purportedly bears the team’s crest tattooed on his left arm.
Reflecting on his fondness for Arsenal, Hjulmand shared (via Sport Witness): “My dad supported Arsenal, and we watched games together when we were younger.”
In the ongoing season, Hjulmand has featured in 21 top-tier matches in Portugal, contributing two goals and as many assists. Since his arrival in the summer of 2023 for £15 million, he has accumulated 36 appearances for Sporting CP, registering two goals and four assists across competitions.
