The Cowboys interviewed Eagles’ Kellen Moore as the first official step in their search to replace Mike McCarthy

The Dallas Cowboys held a virtual interview on Friday with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, marking the first official step in their search to replace former head coach Mike McCarthy.

Moore was the play-caller for Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott from 2019 to 2022, covering the first three years of McCarthy’s five-year contract. McCarthy took over the offensive play-calling duties when Moore left for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023. McCarthy and the Cowboys parted ways earlier this week.

Moore, a former backup quarterback who played behind Prescott in 2017 before becoming his position coach the following year, helped direct an Eagles offense this season that featured running back Saquon Barkley, who became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards. Philadelphia will host the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round on Sunday.

Mike McCarthy with the players

The Cowboys are also planning to interview two former NFL head coaches next: Robert Saleh and Leslie Frazier. Saleh was let go by the New York Jets after only five games into his fourth season in 2024. Frazier, who served as the assistant head coach for the Seattle Seahawks this season, was the Minnesota Vikings’ head coach for over three years a decade ago.

Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones has also had informal discussions with Colorado coach Deion Sanders. Sanders, a Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback, spent five seasons with the Cowboys and played a key role in their last Super Bowl victory, which capped the 1995 season. That remains the last time the Cowboys advanced past the divisional round of the playoffs.

Jason Witten, an 11-time Pro Bowl tight end who holds multiple Cowboys franchise records, has also been mentioned as a potential candidate. Witten has coached at a private school in the Dallas area since retiring for the second time after the 2020 season.

The Bears interviewed Ravens OC Todd Monken and Bills OC Joe Brady for their coaching vacancy in Chicago

The Chicago Bears interviewed two offensive coordinators for their head coaching position on Friday: Todd Monken from the Baltimore Ravens and Joe Brady from the Buffalo Bills. Both coaches lead offenses with MVP-caliber quarterbacks—Lamar Jackson for the Ravens and Josh Allen for the Bills. This Sunday, Baltimore will face Buffalo in a playoff game between AFC division winners.

During the regular season, the Ravens had the top-ranked offense in the NFL and were third in scoring. The Bills ranked second in scoring and 10th in total yards per game.

The Bears are seeking a new head coach after firing Matt Eberflus on November 29. Chicago ended the season with a 5-12 record, finishing last in the NFC North. The team lost 10 straight games before finishing the season with a win against Green Bay.

The development of quarterback Caleb Williams will be the key focus for the new coach, following the Bears’ fourth consecutive losing season. Williams, the No. 1 pick in last year’s draft, threw for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. However, he was sacked 68 times, which set a franchise record and was the most in the league.

The Bears have interviewed 14 candidates for the head coaching job. Some notable names on the list include Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, and former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy. Former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel, who is now in New England, is also among the candidates.

In addition to Monken and Brady, Chicago has interviewed several other candidates. These include Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, interim coach Thomas Brown, former Carolina Panthers and Washington Football Team coach Ron Rivera, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, former Stanford head coach David Shaw, Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing, Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, and New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.

Jerry Jones Champions Christmas Day NFL Games as Netflix Enters Live Sports Arena

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been vocal about his support for maintaining the NFL’s presence on Christmas Day every year. The 82-year-old billionaire believes the holiday provides an excellent platform for the league, regardless of which day of the week Christmas falls on. Speaking on Dallas radio station 105.3 The Fan, Jones stated, “Christmas Day is Christmas Day, and it doesn’t wait around for what day it’s on. We want to be there on Christmas Day.” His remarks highlight his vision of a consistent NFL presence on December 25 for years to come.

Netflix Secures Exclusive Streaming Rights for Holiday Games

This year, Netflix signed a three-year agreement with the NFL to exclusively stream the 2024 Christmas Day doubleheader. Under the terms of the deal, subscribers will be able to watch the games at no additional cost. Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, called the agreement a significant step in the platform’s efforts to expand into live sports, citing the unmatched viewership of NFL games. The deal also includes rights to at least one holiday game in both 2025 and 2026, positioning Netflix as a significant player in the live sports streaming market.

The NFL’s decision to hold games on Christmas Day has been a success but demands thoughtful scheduling. This year, with the holiday landing on a Wednesday, teams participating in the doubleheader adjusted their schedules by playing Week 16 games earlier. The league will encounter additional challenges as the holiday continues to fall on different weekdays, such as Thursday in 2025 and Tuesday in 2029. However, the NFL’s experience in planning Thursday night games throughout the season offers valuable expertise in handling midweek matchups effectively.

Christmas Day Doubleheader Features High-Stakes Matchups

This year’s Christmas Day doubleheader features exciting matchups with the Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens taking on the Houston Texans. These games are expected to draw substantial attention due to their competitive nature and the star power of the participating teams. Adding to the spectacle, music icon Beyoncé will perform at halftime during the Ravens-Texans game in Houston, creating an even more memorable experience for viewers.

While Netflix’s deal with the NFL marks a significant step into live sports, the platform faces high expectations to deliver a flawless viewing experience. Concerns stem from technical issues during a recent live-streamed boxing match, raising questions about Netflix’s ability to handle the large audiences that NFL games attract. Ensuring a seamless broadcast is critical for Netflix to establish credibility in the live sports arena and prove its value as a partner to the NFL.

USC has hired Rob Ryan as its assistant head coach for defense and linebackers coach, based in Los Angeles

Rob Ryan, a longtime NFL defensive coordinator, has been named the assistant head coach for defense and linebackers coach at Southern California (USC). This announcement was made by USC head coach Lincoln Riley on Saturday. Ryan will take over for Matt Entz, who became the head coach at Fresno State last month.

Ryan brings with him 35 years of coaching experience, including 24 years spent in the NFL with nine different teams. For the past three seasons, he served as the senior defensive assistant for the Las Vegas Raiders, working under head coaches Josh McDaniels and Antonio Pierce.

“Rob Ryan is one of the most accomplished defensive coaches in NFL history,” Riley said in a statement. “With over two decades of NFL experience, he will immediately bolster our staff as we continue our climb here at USC.”

Throughout his career, Ryan has held various defensive coordinator positions. He was the defensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders from 2004 to 2008, the Cleveland Browns from 2009 to 2010, the Dallas Cowboys from 2011 to 2012, and the New Orleans Saints from 2013 to 2015. He also earned two Super Bowl rings as the linebackers coach for the New England Patriots from 2000 to 2003.

Cleveland Browns players celebrate after his touchdown in the 1st half

Ryan has worked with USC’s defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn in the past. The two were both part of coaching staffs with the Buffalo Bills in 2016 and the Baltimore Ravens in 2021. During their time with the Bills, they worked under Rex Ryan, who is Rob’s twin brother.

Lynn has quickly become one of the top coordinators in college football. He helped improve UCLA’s and USC’s defenses through two successful rebuilding efforts. Under Lynn’s guidance, USC made significant strides defensively in his first season with the Trojans. Earlier this week, USC signed Lynn to a contract extension.

This will be Rob Ryan’s first coaching position in college football since 1999, when he spent three years as the defensive coordinator at Oklahoma State. After both Rob and Rex Ryan were fired by the Buffalo Bills in December 2016, Rob took a two-year break from coaching. He returned to the NFL in 2019, joining the Washington Football Team.

The Blue Jays traded for outfielder Myles Straw and received $2 million in pool space from the Guardians, but failed to sign Roki Sasaki

The Toronto Blue Jays traded for struggling outfielder Myles Straw and $2 million in international signing bonus pool space from the Cleveland Guardians on Friday.

The money could have been used by the Blue Jays in their attempt to sign Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki. However, hours later, Sasaki revealed on Instagram that he would be joining the Los Angeles Dodgers, the reigning World Series champions.

Cleveland will send $3.75 million to Toronto to help cover part of the $14.75 million remaining on Straw’s contract for the final two years of his $25 million, five-year deal. In exchange, the Guardians will receive either a player to be named later or cash.

This trade raised the Blue Jays’ international signing pool to $8,261,600. As of Wednesday, when the 2025 signing window opened, the team had not signed any players, leaving the entire amount available for Sasaki.

However, despite their efforts, Sasaki chose to sign with the Dodgers rather than the Blue Jays or San Diego Padres, who were also among the top contenders. Sasaki had until next Thursday to sign with a major league team, and since he is considered an international amateur by MLB, he is only eligible for a minor league contract, which falls under the same bonus pool rules as Latin American prospects.

Los Angeles’ pool of $5,146,200 ranked 29th among the 30 teams, just ahead of Cleveland’s $4,908,600 after the trade. San Diego had a pool of $6,261,000.

The Dodgers, Blue Jays, and Padres had not signed any international amateurs yet, while the Padres had signed only three players, each for $10,000 bonuses. Any bonuses above $10,000 count against the pool.

Straw, who has a salary of $6 million this year and $7 million in 2026, is also guaranteed a $1.75 million buyout for a 2027 team option. Cleveland will send Toronto $1 million this year, $1 million in 2026, and $1.75 million at the end of 2026.

Cleveland signed Straw to his long-term deal in April 2022, but his performance did not meet expectations. In 2022, he batted just .221 with no home runs, 32 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases. In 2023, he improved slightly, hitting .238 with one homer, 29 RBIs, and 20 steals.

Last April, Straw was sent down to Triple-A Columbus, where he hit .240 with three home runs, 47 RBIs, and 30 stolen bases. He returned to the big leagues in September, playing in seven games and going 1 for 4.

The New York Mets have signed left-handed reliever A.J. Minter to a two-year deal in New York

The New York Mets have reached an agreement with free-agent left-handed reliever A.J. Minter on a two-year deal, according to a source familiar with the transaction. The deal is still pending a successful physical examination.

Minter, who recently underwent left hip surgery, will be guaranteed $22 million in the contract. He has the option to opt out of the deal after the 2025 season.

The 31-year-old Minter has spent his entire eight-season MLB career with the Atlanta Braves, a division rival of the Mets. Over 384 relief appearances, he has a 24-29 record, a 3.28 ERA, and 36 saves.

In 2023, Minter posted a 5-4 record, a 2.62 ERA, and one save in 39 games. He struck out 35 batters and walked 11 in 34 1/3 innings before his season ended due to surgery in August.

Minter’s surgery was performed by Dr. Thomas Byrd in Nashville, Tennessee. He was diagnosed with a torn labrum, hip impingement, and a lesion on his femur. The surgery involved a microfracture procedure. Earlier in the season, Minter had also dealt with left hip inflammation from May 30 to June 30 and left shoulder inflammation for two weeks in July.

Despite his injury setbacks, Minter has been a reliable and effective reliever when healthy. He has 422 career strikeouts in 348 2/3 innings. In 2018, he set a career-high with 15 saves, and he recorded 10 saves in 2023.

New York Mets players in the 6th inning

Minter was also a key contributor to the Braves’ bullpen during their 2021 World Series win. In 20 postseason appearances, he has a 3-1 record with a 2.88 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 25 innings.

The Mets have made moves to strengthen their starting rotation this offseason by signing free agents Sean Manaea, Frankie Montas, Griffin Canning, and former All-Star closer Clay Holmes. However, the bullpen still needs attention.

Minter’s addition gives Mets manager Carlos Mendoza a proven left-handed option for late innings, which the team lacked last season. His role will be to help set up star closer Edwin Díaz, especially after the Mets’ unexpected run to the National League Championship Series last year.

This agreement with Minter was announced on the same day the Mets also signed outfielder and designated hitter Jesse Winker to a one-year contract.

These moves could indicate that the Mets may not be planning to re-sign All-Star slugger Pete Alonso, with owner Steve Cohen and president of baseball operations David Stearns focusing their resources elsewhere.

Justin Herbert Faces Harsh Scrutiny After Playoff Collapse as Chargers Eye Roster Revamp

The Los Angeles Chargers faced a humiliating 32-12 loss to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round, marking one of the franchise’s most devastating playoff performances. Quarterback Justin Herbert struggled significantly, turning the ball over four times, a rare low point in his otherwise impressive career.

His performance sparked widespread criticism, with many fans and analysts questioning whether Herbert, at just 26, has what it takes to lead the team deep into the postseason. Despite his record-setting career stats, doubts about his ability to perform under playoff pressure continue to linger.

Leadership Defends Herbert Amid Harsh Criticism

While critics were quick to scrutinize Herbert, the Chargers’ leadership maintained a staunch defense of their quarterback. Head coach Jim Harbaugh assumed responsibility for the team’s preparation, emphasizing that the blame didn’t solely rest on Herbert. General manager Joe Hortiz provided context by pointing out other elite quarterbacks, such as Lamar Jackson and Peyton Manning, who also faced postseason struggles early in their careers. This defense underscores the organization’s confidence in Herbert’s long-term potential, even amid a disappointing playoff outing.

Coach Harbaugh reinforced his belief in Herbert, drawing inspiration from comments by Big Cat of Barstool Sports. He supported the idea of “buying Herbert’s stock,” implying that the young quarterback still has immense untapped potential. This public backing highlights the Chargers’ commitment to their franchise QB and their expectation of a strong rebound. Harbaugh’s statements suggest that the organization views Herbert’s playoff struggles as part of the learning curve for a player destined for greatness.

Poor Preparation and Individual Highlights Amid Defeat

The Chargers’ loss was marked by an underwhelming overall performance, with the team appearing unprepared for their wild-card opponent. Herbert’s statistics—242 passing yards, one touchdown, four interceptions, and a dismal 43.7% completion rate—reflected one of the worst quarterback playoff outings in recent memory. However, rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey shone brightly despite the loss, setting a record with 197 receiving yards in a single playoff game. His standout performance provided a rare silver lining for the Chargers in an otherwise bleak contest.

In the aftermath of their playoff collapse, the Chargers are expected to make significant changes to their roster, particularly at wide receiver. With the goal of bolstering Herbert’s supporting cast, several high-profile free agents like Tee Higgins, Amari Cooper, and Stefon Diggs are being eyed as potential additions. These moves signal the organization’s intent to address their weaknesses and better equip Herbert for future playoff success, reaffirming their long-term investment in their young star quarterback.

The Oakland Athletics have signed reliever José Leclerc to a one-year, $10 million contract in Oakland

The Athletics have agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract with former Texas right-handed reliever José Leclerc.

The 31-year-old Leclerc went 6-5 with a 4.32 ERA and one save in 64 relief appearances for the Rangers last season. He struck out 89 batters in 66 2/3 innings and held right-handed hitters to a .193 batting average.

Leclerc has spent his entire MLB career with the Rangers, making his debut in 2016. Over 350 career appearances, he has a 12-20 record, a 3.27 ERA, and 41 saves. He has averaged 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings during his career.

Oakland Athletics players in the dugout

He was limited to just two games in 2020, with the last on July 26, due to a torn right teres major muscle. Leclerc missed the entire 2021 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery on March 30, 2021, and returned to the big leagues on June 18, 2022.

To make room for Leclerc on the 40-man roster, the A’s designated right-handed pitcher Will Klein for assignment.

Corey Seager announces he will be ready for Rangers spring training in Arlington after undergoing two hernia surgeries

All-Star shortstop and two-time World Series MVP Corey Seager says he feels great and will be ready for the first day of spring training with the Texas Rangers after undergoing two hernia surgeries last year.

“It’s a pretty normal offseason, which is nice. First time in a while,” Seager said Friday night before the team’s annual awards dinner, where he was honored as the Rangers’ player of the year. “It’s been good to kind of get in the gym and get in shape again and just kind of be ready.”

Seager had a right sports hernia repair on September 13. This was on the opposite side of his abdomen from the first surgery on January 30, which caused him to miss most of spring training last year, though he was able to be ready for the season opener.

During the time between surgeries, Seager played 123 games and hit .278 with 30 home runs and 74 RBIs. After a slow start, he batted .296 with 28 home runs and 66 RBIs in 94 games after the start of May.

Corey Seager hits a home run in the 1st inning

“It might have been a little easier just because you know what to expect,” Seager said about recovering from the second surgery. “You weren’t as nervous about certain feelings and stuff like that. So once the six weeks was over, I kind of hit the ground running and I got to kind of build into it slower than I did (last) spring.”

Seager also played through a left hernia issue during the postseason, when the Rangers won their first World Series title in 2023. Despite the injury, he hit .318 with six home runs, 12 RBIs, and 15 walks in 17 postseason games.

Sammy Sosa receives a warm welcome in Chicago for his reunion with the Cubs

Sammy Sosa jogged onto the stage holding an American flag, and the crowd erupted in applause.

It felt like the old days — except this time, Sosa was dressed in a suit, and the event took place in a downtown hotel ballroom instead of at Wrigley Field.

Sosa and the Chicago Cubs are back together after the slugger made an appearance at the team’s annual fan convention on Friday. The Cubs also announced that Sosa will be inducted into the franchise’s Hall of Fame this year, alongside former first baseman Derrek Lee.

The reunion began when Sosa released a statement last month apologizing for unspecified mistakes. While Sosa has faced questions about using performance-enhancing drugs, he clarified that the apology wasn’t related to that issue.

“No. I’m referring, for example, look, 21 years out,” said Sosa, who played his final season with the Cubs in 2004. “I had the fans that loved me very much. I had to apologize to them because I mean normally they see me play so many years.”

Although Sosa, 56, didn’t go into details about his apology, it didn’t seem to matter to Cubs fans, who had been hoping for a reunion for years, or to the organization, which gave him a warm welcome after years of ignoring the seven-time All-Star.

When Sosa was announced as part of the Cubs’ Hall of Fame class, the crowd gave him a standing ovation. The cheers grew louder when he appeared on stage holding the flag, bringing back memories of when he ran out to right field in the Cubs’ first home game after the September 11 attacks in 2001.

Another round of applause followed when Sosa returned to the stage later in the ceremony, wearing his old No. 21 Cubs jersey. “I think that today was a perfect day,” Sosa said.

Chicago Cubs players pose for a photo after the win

Sosa became a star with the Cubs after being traded from the crosstown White Sox in March 1992 for George Bell. Known as Slammin’ Sammy, he hit a team-record 545 home runs and drove in 1,414 RBIs during his 13 years with the Cubs.

Sosa gained national attention in 1998 when he had an unforgettable home run race with Mark McGwire. Sosa hit 66 home runs that season and won the NL MVP award, while McGwire finished with 70 homers, setting the MLB single-season record at the time.

However, Sosa’s relationship with the Cubs became strained due to accusations of using performance-enhancing drugs and questions about his behavior. He was traded to Baltimore after a controversial incident in 2004, when he showed up late for the season finale at Wrigley Field and left early.

Sosa denied using performance-enhancing drugs during his 2005 testimony before Congress.

“I got a chance to play with Sammy my first year here, and he was always good to me,” Lee said. “You know, he taught me a lot about hitting. One of the hardest workers you’ll ever see. Came to play every day. He admitted mistakes, apologized for them, moved on. We’ve all made mistakes, and we all want forgiveness. So, time to move on. It’s been a long time.”

Sosa finished his MLB career with a .273 batting average, 609 home runs (currently ninth on the all-time list), 1,667 RBIs, and 234 stolen bases in 18 seasons from 1989 to 2007.

He fell short of Hall of Fame election in 2022, during his 10th and final appearance on the Baseball Writers’ Association of America ballot. His next chance for induction would come if he is placed on the ballot for the contemporary player committee, which meets next December.

“I think Sammy was a part of some magical summers here, some important summers here,” said Cubs manager Craig Counsell, who faced Sosa as a player. “He entertained people like very few did in a Chicago Cubs uniform. So it’s good that he’s back. It’s great that he’s here.”

Commanders Face Top-Seeded Lions in NFC Divisional Round Clash Highlighting Historic Rivalry

The NFC Divisional Round will feature the Washington Commanders facing the top-seeded Detroit Lions this Saturday. Washington, coming off a dramatic 23-20 wild-card win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels’ performance included 268 passing yards, two touchdowns, and a game-winning drive, marking Washington’s first playoff victory since 2005 and ending one of the longest playoff droughts in the NFL.

Under head coach Dan Campbell, the Detroit Lions are once again contenders for a Super Bowl. Last season, the Lions advanced to the NFC Championship Game, but their hopes were dashed by a second-half rally from the San Francisco 49ers. This year, they have secured the NFC’s No. 1 seed for the first time in franchise history, a huge milestone in their quest for their first championship since 1957.

Washington Commanders’ Strong Playoff History Against Detroit Lions

Washington holds a perfect 3-0 postseason record against Detroit, having defeated them in three previous playoff meetings—twice in the wild-card round (1982, 1999) and once in the conference championship (1991). Washington went on to win Super Bowls after each of those victories, adding historical significance to this rivalry. This matchup marks the fourth meeting between these teams in the playoffs.

Jayden Daniels, Washington’s rookie quarterback, has made an immediate impact, leading five game-winning drives this season—the third most by a rookie quarterback since 1950. Daniels is also a dual-threat, rushing for 927 yards, the second-most by a quarterback in the league this season. His performance has set multiple records, including becoming the first rookie quarterback to rush for over 900 yards, showcasing his ability to thrive under pressure.

Lions’ Dominant Offense and Jared Goff’s Leadership in 2025 Season

The Detroit Lions have been dominant offensively, outscoring opponents by 222 points this season, a franchise first. Quarterback Jared Goff has been instrumental, leading an explosive offense alongside star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and dynamic running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. Gibbs, in particular, has been remarkable, leading the league in scrimmage touchdowns and joining an elite group with 20 touchdowns, over 1,400 rushing yards, and 500 receiving yards in a single season.

Jayden Daniels will face another historic challenge in this game, as it marks the sixth time in Super Bowl history that a rookie quarterback faces a team with the best record in the NFL. Daniels has 13 wins in his rookie season, just one shy of tying Ben Roethlisberger’s record of 14 rookie victories. The stakes are high, with Washington looking to build on their past playoff success and advance to the NFC Championship Game for the first time in decades.

Hoyer states the Cubs are concentrating on strengthening their bullpen and bench in Chicago

The Chicago Cubs are focusing on improving their bullpen and bench as the offseason continues, according to Jed Hoyer, the team’s president of baseball operations.

Speaking on the first day of the Cubs’ annual fan convention, Hoyer also mentioned that the team’s opening day third baseman is likely already within the organization. He reiterated that the front office plans to reinvest the money saved from the Cody Bellinger trade into the team’s roster. Hoyer also provided an update on infielder Nico Hoerner, saying he is recovering well from flexor tendon surgery.

The Cubs finished second in the NL Central for the past two seasons, with an 83-79 record both years. The team hasn’t made the playoffs since 2020.

One of the biggest struggles for the Cubs in 2024 was their bullpen. The relievers had 35 losses, the fourth-most in the majors, along with 26 blown saves and a 3.81 ERA.

“Just in general, we’re involved in a lot of different relievers,” Hoyer said on Friday. “I think we have tons of lines in the water, I guess I would say, and it’s a little bit of a staring contest at times with all these guys. But there’s a lot of talent out there, and we’ll just look to upgrade the roster however we can.”

Colin Rea pitches in the 1st inning

The Cubs made moves to improve their roster by trading for outfielder Kyle Tucker from Houston on December 13. They’ve also added Matthew Boyd, Eli Morgan, and Colin Rea to their pitching staff since the end of the season.

In the trade for Tucker, the Cubs gave up Isaac Paredes, and top prospect Matt Shaw is one of the team’s top candidates to take over at third base.

Hoyer is in the final year of his contract with the Cubs, and he chose not to discuss any talks with team chairman Tom Ricketts about his future with the organization.

“I get it, it’s a topic, but it’s not something I’m concerned about,” Hoyer said. “I’m excited about this season.”

Tucker and the Cubs agreed to a $16.5 million, one-year contract ahead of the convention, avoiding a potentially tough arbitration hearing.

Tucker turned 28 on Friday, and the convention crowd sang happy birthday to him. Tucker is eligible for free agency after the 2025 season.

When asked about any discussions on a longer contract during the negotiation of his one-year deal, Tucker said, “No, not yet.”

“We’ll see where that leads to a little later,” he added. “But right now, just kind of got through the arbitration process and we’ll see what happens after that.”
