In a suburban shooting in Glendale, at least three people were shot dead by an armed man in a prominent shopping complex near Phoenix on Wednesday night. The man has been taken into custody by Glendale police.
The event took place in the evening in Phoenix, and the police received multiple reports of shooting in the area. Ngalula said that three people were shot with one in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
One victim, a 19-year-old man, was last reported in critical condition on Thursday, while the other two, a 16-year-old girl and a 30-year-old woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said. All are expected to survive.
The shooting was no longer active when police arrived at the scene, Ngalula said.
Armando Hernandez Jr., 20, the identified shooter has affiliations with INCEL and extremist ideologies. According to preliminary investigations, the alleged motives that ‘induced’ the shooting is more on a personal front.
The accused, during the interview, cited bullying and rejection from love interests as the plausible cause, but the unconvinced FBI has already launched a counter-terrorism investigation to find a clear motive.
Glendale Police Sergeant, Randy Stewart, at a press briefing on Thursday, said, ” Hernandez told authorities he’d scoped out the scene, went back to his car to retrieve his weapon and loaded three rifle magazines to capacity. ”
He further added that Hernandez admitted he was the shooter, and a black assault rifle was recovered at the scene.
The police have sent Hernandez to trial on the basis of 16 felony charges, including two counts of aggravated assault causing serious injury and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the shooting, which was reported at 7:25 pm on Wednesday evening.
“Our hearts and prayers are with the individuals and families impacted tonight, as well as the first responders and police officers who are on the scene,” Arizona Gov.
Doug Ducey said via Twitter. “The state is here to continue to offer its full support to the victims and to the community.”
Several videos have popped up online, claiming to be the Glendale incident shooting. The authorities have requested the submission of those videos as the purpose of evidence.
“We are thankful that this was not a larger-scale tragedy,” Tiffany Ngalula, the PI officer, said at a media briefing. “We are thankful that there were no more than three victims or that there have not been any fatalities at this time.”
