It was a terrible day for Iga Swiatek in Wimbledon 2022, day 6. She lost her third-round encounter against A. Cornet in straight sets. She couldn’t even make a comeback in the match and was dominated by Cornet the entire match. The world number 1 faced a humiliating defeat as she could not even win more than 6 games in two sets. At least the first set was a little tougher for Cornet to win. Iga looked to be in the game for the majority of the set. Cornet had to stick to her game plan and eventually won the set 4-6. The second set was a disaster for Swiatek. She did not look like her usual self, and Cornet took advantage of that. She won the second set 2-6.

From the word go, Rafa dominated his match against L.Sonego. This Rafa looked completely different from his first two matches. He was aggressive from the start, made very less errors, and it looked as if he gained momentum on the grass. The first set was the easiest for Rafa, which he won 6-1. The second set almost managed the same story, though Soreno managed to win an extra game. Rafa won the second set 6-2. The third set saw some fight from the Italian, but it wasn’t enough for the pumped-up Rafa. He wrapped up the match, winning the final set 6-4.

If you have followed tennis in recent years, you all know what relationship Nick and Tsitsipas share. They have been vocally critical of each other, saying nasty comments. It definitely translated on the court as well. Without a doubt, the match was brilliant in terms of the quality of tennis. Both players gave it their all and showed the fight that the audience wanted to see. Finally, it was Nick who won the battle in four sets.

As we all saw Day 3 of Wimbledon was just full of upsets. #2 seed Kontaviet lost her round 2 match in a disappointing fashion. Rafael Nadal faced his opponent Ricardas Berankis in round 2 of Wimbledon 2022 day 4. Nadal was expected to have an easy win after being tested by the Argentinian in round 1. It started off tough, both players testing out each other. To everyone’s surprise, the Lithuanian was playing solid, countering Rafa on each point. Somehow, Nadal managed to find a loophole, winning the set 6-4. The second set followed the exact story, almost the same.

However, Rafa again managed to find that single blindspot and won the second set 6-4. The fans felt safe after he had a two-set lead over his opponent. The third set started on a completely different note. Nadal lost his serve in the beginning and found himself trailing the entire set. With a break in hand, Berankis took the third set 4-6. It was time Rafa had enough of this. He came out storming in the fourth set and did not give any chance to his opponent. That was what the fans were looking for, that sharp intensity and shot-making ability. Rafael Nadal won the match 6-4 6-4 4-6 and 6-3.

Iga Swiatek also faced a tough challenge on day 4. She was against L. Kerkhove of Nedtherlands. The first set, much like Rafa’s was tough but she somehow managed to win it 6-4. She took a real beating in the second set losing it 4-6. The third was where she showed her class and won it 6-3. She is now on 37 matches winning streak.

Nick Kygios And Tsitsipas Have It Easy

Nick Kyrgios and Tsitsipas won their matches quite comfortably without losing any set on day 4 of Wimbledon. The Aussie faced #26 Filip Krajinović. It turned out to be the complete opposite of what everyone thought. Kyrgios won the match with ease in straight sets. Tsitsipas also won the match easily in straight sets against his Australian opponent Jordan Thompson.

This makes it even more important for Iga and is more prepared. Yesterday’s eviction of top seeds like Kontaviet and Emma must have given her some sort of perspective. She will have this in her mind for sure when she enters the court today.

Nick Kyrgios, Stefano Tsitsipas, and Denis have their matches today. In the first round Nick survived a five-set encounter and today he will be facing #26 seeded Filip Krajinović. The Serbian might become a problem for Nick since he has a habit of becoming casual sometimes.  #4 seed Tsitsipas is up against J. Thompson from Australia. Wimbledon 2022 is proving to be a splendor of a tournament. With so many close matches, five sets, and three-set matches, respectively. There is no surety as of now, and it looks like anything is possible in the tournament. But there was one really bad news that surfaced on day 2 of Wimbledon. Matteo Berrettini has been ruled out of the competition as he is covid positive. There are a few concerns over Rafael Nadal’s health as well. The Spaniard came in contact with the Italian last when they were seen practicing together on the Centre Court. Italian number 1 did not even get to play a single match in the tournament, and he was in such a good form.

Wimbledon 2022 Day 2: Rafa Stretches It Out

Rafa’s first-round matchup was against a young Argentinian F. Cerúndolo, who was unseeded in the tournament. Still early on grass, Rafa looked a bit rusty, but he managed his serve well and closed the first set 6-4. In the second, the story continued, though Rafa was not as sharp as he usually is, he managed to win the second set 6-3. Problems started in the 3rd when the opponent became more comfortable on the court with his movements and his shots. He overpowered Rafa and managed to win the third 3-6. The fourth set started in a very similar fashion for Rafa as he bundled away his serve, leaving him hanging 2-4. He then held his serve, made it 3-4, and then again broke the Argentinian. He made it 4-4, and from there, he held his ground. Rafa won the fourth set 6-4. Even though it was a tough fight, the good thing is Rafa managed to end the match in four sets only.

Iga Swiatek showed her class against the Croatian qualifier. Iga started off with a perfect score, hardly any errors, and forced her opponent to do all the hard work and make errors. She comfortably won the first set 6-0. However, the second set was completely different. The first half of the second set made Swiatek look like a completely different player. She struggled to find her shots, credit to her opponent for making her make errors. But as a true champion, she bounced back. Being 1-3 down in the second, she did not lose a single game after that. Turned around the entire set on her side and won the second set 6-3. Now she has a 36-matches unbeaten streak. What a terrific record!!

Serena Crashes Out

Things couldn’t have been worse for Serena Williams fans. Appearing after three years, fans were extremely happy to see her in all white. She faced H. Tan from France but was unfortunately crashed out in the first round itself. It was a really close match. Tan won the first set 5-7, and it looked as if it is all over for Williams. But she bounced back in the second and won it 6-1. That was a dominant second set. The third was nerve-wracking, and the French player somehow found a way to win against the American in a tie-break. The third set went 6-7 in Tan’s favor.

Nobody imagined the future of Tennis would be 20-30 years ago. These three players have been completely dominant and, in the near future, likely seem to be the same. Over the years, their rivalry has produced many magical moments for us to witness. Today, I will discuss my personal top 5 matches played between the three players, totally unbiased. It will be really exciting to see and for you to read.

Top 5 Matches: Match 5- Novak Djokovic Vs Roger Federer 2019 Wimbledon

This is the longest Wimbledon final, beating 2008 final and making my list at no 4 in the top 5 matches ever played. Federer was looking for his ninth Wimbledon title and did not want a repeat of his losses in 2014 and 2015 Wimbledon. The match all the way looked equal, and both of them had their fair share of winners and unforced errors. The first went to Nole, who won it 7-6. In the second set, Roger came back and showed his class, absolutely pure class. He won the second set comfortably 1-6. The third was again a long and hard-fought set. So many brilliant and beautiful rallies, amazing winners, volleys, and lobs.

Djokovic again came on top and narrowly won the set 7-6. This game was completely going back and forth. The fourth set was a display of Roger’s ability to come back. He stayed in the rallies and, point by point, managed to take the fourth, 4-6. The fifth set, easily the longest set, had everything the audience wished for. Drama, passion, fame, respect, just everything. It took a score of  13-12 for Djokovic to come out victorious. Novak Djokovic defeated Roger Federer, 7-6, 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, 13-12.

Match 4: Novak Djokovic Vs Rafael Nadal 2012 Australian Open Final- Top 5 Tennis Matches

The longest grand slam final match in its history, the 2012 Australian Open Final between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal ranks no 3 in the list of top 5 tennis matches ever. This match was so physically exhausting for the players that they were not able to stand during the post-match ceremony. In the first set, as usual, both players show their best shots to each other, matching shot by shot. Rafa took the first set 5-7. Novak bounces back and, in a convincing fashion, takes the second set 6-4.

The third follows a similar story, and Novak, with an upper hand, took the third, 6-2. Rafa, as always, is a fighter, who doesn’t know when to give up, and fights hard in the third. Long rallies, covering a lot of distance for each point, were sure a  treat to watch. However, Nadal, like on many other occasions, manages to step and win the set 6-7. This makes for an epic fifth set. The fifth set, in hindsight, is really tough for Nadal’s fans to digest. He was 2-4 up in the final set but somehow loses his serve. From there on, Rafa was not able to recover and loses the set 7-5. After 5 hours and 53 minutes, Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7, 7-5.

Match 3: Roger Federer Vs Rafael Nadal 2009 Australian Open

After the 2008 Wimbledon final, the duo meets again in the 2009 Australian Open final. Having already beaten Roger on the grass, Rafa looked to be the man to beat Roger again, but this time on hard court. Rafael Nadal takes a tough first set 5-7. Roger comes back in the second to win it 6-2. The third set is a very tough one, but Rafa edges it and wins 6-7. Roger again comes back and convincingly wins the set 6-3. The final set showed Rafa’s dominance, and he took home the set 2-6. 2009 Australian Open final, Roger Federer lost to Rafael Nadal, 5-7, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 2-6.

Match 2: Rafael Nadal Vs Novak Djokovic 2013 French Open Semi-Final

2013 was probably one of Nadal’s best years in terms of what he achieved on the court. Novak Djokovic was world no 1 at that time and was dominating the majority of tournaments. But French Open was one thing where he always felt short. He was in prime condition and had performed really well against Rafa on clay prior to French Open. That final was the closest, Novak managed to beat Rafa in the French Open final. The match lasted for 4 hours and 37 minutes. In the first set, Rafa kept it intact and won the first set 6-4. In the second, Novak showed his world no 1 class and won the set 3-6. The third was clear cut on Rafa’s side as he took it 6-1. The fourth was a very hard-fought game, and again Djokovic showed his class and came back to take the set 6-7. Fifth was a major deciding factor as it was no less than a roller coaster ride for both the players. With a lot of ups and downs, sometimes Rafa or sometimes Djoko, it was Rafa in the end who took away the set 9-7. After such extraordinary efforts by both the men, Rafael Nadal beat Novak Djokovic 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-7, 9-7.

Match 1- Roger Federer Vs Rafael Nadal 2008 Wimbledon

Arguably the best match in the history of Tennis ranks no 1 in the list of top 5 matches ever played. 2008 Wimbledon was the start of Rafael Nadal’s career as an all-around player, especially a grasscourt player. Before this, he tried his best against Roger but was able to surpass his supreme grass play. Both in 2006 and 2007, Rafa reached the final of Wimbledon but lost to Roger. 2008 final was the resurgence for Rafa as he managed to beat Roger for the first time on grasscourt. The 4-hour 48 minutes match saw probably the best set of Tennis to be ever played. Many experts and ex-players believe so, and if you watch the match again on Youtube, you will also believe that. The match started off as equal as possible, and improved Rafa was seen as opposed to the previous finals. He gave Roger a tough fight, every point was hard-fought, and in the ninth game, Rafa managed to break his serve. He won the set 6-4.

The second set followed a similar story, and Rafa won the set again, 6-4. An amazing turn of events was to take place. As close as the match was, it was anybody’s game to win, and Roger displayed why he is a class apart. Under pressure to win and make a comeback, Federer won the third set in a tiebreak, taking the set 6-7. The fourth set followed a similar story where everything seemed equal. 1-2 down, Roger again managed to win the set in the tiebreak, 6-7 the score. Down to the final set, momentum had completely gone to Roger, and things looked ugly for Rafa. Famous for his mental strength, Rafa did not give up. The set continued with some amazing rallies along the way. However, none of them wanted to lose. It was in the very end that Rafa managed to break Roger at 7-7. The score was 8-7, and on his serve, he finished off the match, winning the set 9-7. Rafael Nadal beat Roger Federer 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 9-7.

Rafa also said, “It’s true that playing well at Roland Garros gives you confidence, but the grass is a very difficult surface. Any round is complicated. The start of the tournament will be vital for me because, if you manage to progress, later the opponents are more difficult, but then you have more confidence because you’ve found your rhythm on grass,”.

The entire week Nadal has walked or practiced without limping. A great sign for him and all his fans. Rafa last won the Wimbledon way back in 2010. In 2008, he won the first grass major, which is probably the best match in tennis history, when he beat Roger Federer in five sets.

Wimbledon 2022 starts on 27 June.

The Goat?

This is an interesting point whether Rafael Nadal is now the G.O.A.T or not. He is now clearly two slams ahead of his fiercest rivals, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. For almost two decades, these three have completed dominated their sport, and no other has managed to dethrone them. Though the topic of who the GOAT is quite subjective. If the number of slams is the deciding factor, then probably the answer is Rafael Nadal. At least till the time he is ahead.

Who Is Rafael Nadal?

For those of you not familiar, Rafael Nadal is a Spanish tennis player from Mallorca. He turned professional in 2003 and since then has been on top of this sport. Currently, has the most Singles Grand Slam titles, including 14 French Opens, 2 Wimbledons, 2 Australian Opens, and 4 US Open titles. He is 36 years old, but his passion, intensity, and love on the game don’t seem to fade away.

Iga Swiatek, the Polish charm has been literally unbeatable for quite a while now. It will be interesting to see who can give her a tough fight, considering grass is not everyone’s cup of tea. There are a lot of questions about which Wimbledon has all the answers. 128 men and 128 women single players are going to compete. It is all about survival of the fittest, the smartest, mentally the strongest, sometimes the luckiest, and the most confident. The one who is all of the above is the one to take the crown. And talking crown, we will be getting to see the Royal Family among the crowd. The best sporting personalities are also sure to make their presence felt. All this can happen only at Wimbledon. So make sure you have all that you need before you sit down to witness the two-weeker extravaganza.

Wimbledon is here to give you the best of the best players. So let’s see who is there to look forward to.

Wimbledon 2022- Players In And Out

There are a number of appearances that will be coming back after a break, for which we all are extremely excited. Roger Federer for sure, Berettinni as well. Murray recently had an injury at Queen’s so it is not sure whether he will be fit in the time but it will be great to see the Brit back in action. The ban of Russian and Belarussian players due to the ongoing conflict is a shame. We won’t see current World No 1 Medvedev trying his luck on the grass court nor we will see the ever-fiery Rublev. Belarussian No 1, and former World  No 1 Victoria Azarenka will be missed as well. Even though she appealed to the WTA community against the ban, it is still in place. But with whatever we have, let’s see what all those players can bring to the table.

Roger Federer- Out

The Swiss Maestro, the legend, the player who has won this tournament more than any other in the history of tennis is yet to come back. After a long break and not participating in the clay season at all, Federer is still not there yet. Over 40 now, Federer is still not ready to leave the game considering that now Rafa is 2 grand slams ahead. There must be a fire in his belly to come back and leave a mark as soon as possible. People love Roger, we all do and Wimbledon without him seems incomplete. Recently, he stated that he will likely be fully fit by September 2022. His fitness is going to be a question, he has been out of the game for a long time now. We all hope that like always he proves us wrong and comes back stronger.

Matteo Berrettini- In

The young superstar Italian is making a comeback after a few months of injury. He announced his return by winning the grass-court final against Andy Murray in style. There are a lot of expectations from him as he is a strong grass-court player. He has all the qualities to win a grand slam, so it will be important for him to perform well and prove his worth.

Rafael Nadal- Maybe

After winning his 14th French Open title earlier this month, Rafael Nadal is in doubt if he could make it to Wimbledon. He carried a  nasty foot injury during the entire Roland Garros. If it was not for his doctor, he wouldn’t have played the clay tournament at all. He was constantly given pain-numbing injections which caused his foot to feel no pain. But according to Rafa this cannot continue for a long time and needs a solution. It is now up to the coming days to see how the condition of Rafa’s foot is. If it is fine, then Wimbledon is not a tournament he would want to miss.

Novak Djokovic- In

The current Wimbledon champ will look to continue his streak in London and come one step closer to Rafa. Presently, Nadal is 2 grand slams ahead of Novak. Last year, they both were at 20. After winning both the Australian Open and the French Open this year, Nadal is now two steps ahead. This is clearly a motivation for Novak, considering the availability concerns of Rafa this Wimbledon. He is surely the clear favorite to win this tournament if Rafa is unavailable. Otherwise, someone from the young lot has to cause an upset.

Alexander Zverev- Out

In the semi-final of the French Open against Nadal, Alexander took one of the scariest injuries ever seen on a tennis court. The way he screamed just said it all. His ankle twisted so badly while chasing the ball, that it was hard to see. He had ruled himself out of the match, and Rafa automatically qualified for the finals. But one thing was sure Sasha was playing probably his best tennis and what a time to get injured. Talk about bad luck!

Wawrinka- In

His recent run of form is always a happy sign for tennis lovers. When he is in form, he can and has beaten the best of the best. We will love when Wawrinka hits those backhands down the line, down the memory lane. Isn’t it?

Iga Swiatek- In

The Polish prodigy seems to be unstoppable. Her recent run or months of the run has been unmatched. She has not lost a single match for months now and it seems that Wimbledon is her next target. Her focus and intensity in the match are something others can’t be on par with. Will there be someone, to be able to take her out?

Emma Raducanu- In

A superstar in the making, Raducanu, at only 19 years of age is British No 1 and hopes to make it big at this year’s Wimbledon. Suffering from a side strain earlier, she has had no match practice at all leading to Wimbledon. Emma and her team are yet to decide whether they will participate in a grass-court tournament prior to Wimbledon. For that, they have to apply for wild card entry, or else Emma straight goes to Wimbledon without practice. At her best though, she has a solid chance to beat Swiatek.

Alcaraz- In

The Spanish sensation, who took the tennis community by storm is ready to try his luck at Wimbledon. Even though he is great on hard courts and on clay, the grass is something he has not been tested on. His recent tournaments have gone great for him but there are some questions regarding his performances in grand slams which he would like to break. He can be a force to be reckoned with and can cause serious threats to the likes of Djokovic and Nadal.  An interesting prospect with an interesting future.

For the first time in Wimbledon history, #1 and #2 are not participating in Men’s category. Medvedev for obvious reasons and Alexander Zverev for his horrific injury, both are out of this competition. We wish to see both of them in Wimbledon next year, hopefully.
